Daisies of the Galaxy [album] - Eels
I picked this up recently, but I had originally heard of it when someone used "Selective Memory" on a Flash movie. I wouldn't really go so far as to say the album is depressing or easy listening, but it does have a certain relaxing quality about it.
Yesterday:
Hope Rides Alone [album] - The Protomen
Sounds like Awesome. Is made of Awesome. It's Awesome. It's kinda heavy indie rock with some orchestrations and choir bits (for the album). Basically, it's a concept album that retells the story of the first Megaman game. The first, third and fourth songs from the album were available for free for a time a year or two ago. You are missing out.
The Doubble Donkey Disc [album] - Ozma
I first learned about Ozma when a friend sent me their cover of Korobeiniki, a popular Russian folk song that has gained tremendous popularity as "the Tetris song". (I actually use a 30 second clip of the song as my ringtone.) Ever since, I'd been dying to hear other songs by Ozma, so I looked them up in the iTunes store the other day. According to the profile, they sound exactly like early or middle Weezer. Not too far from the truth. While not exactly bad, the album sounds like a Weezer clone, so if you like Weezer, I guess you'll like Ozma.

The original show that got me hooked after it was recommended by a friend. You can download this show and a bunch of their other shows from archive.org for free-as-in-beer. STS9 is a pretty mellow electronica/Atlanta-influenced hip-hop jam band. I'd love to go to one of their shows, but they've moved out west, so I'll have to wait for a tour and something maybe a little more east than the Tabernacle (like the Handlebar or something in Columbia).

Sigur R?s - Star?lfur
Sigur Ros is an Icelandic band that someone recommended to me when they heard that I liked other post-rock bands like Explosions in the Sky and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Sigur Ros is considered a slow-motion rock band, with some post-rock and 'shoegaze' elements. (No, I don't know what shoegaze means either.) It's kind of weird listening to songs sung in Icelandic or Hopelandic, but I like it just the same. Kind of a softer, experimental rock with a pretty, mellow vibe.

Blue night over the sky
Blue night over me
Disappeared out the window
My hands hidden
Under my cheek
I think about my day
Today and yesterday
I put on my blue pajamas
Go straight to bed
I caress the soft covers
Close my eyes
I hide my head under the sheets
A little elf stares at me
Turns me in, but doesn't move
From his place ? himself
A staring elf
I open my eyes
The crusts come off
I stretch myself and check (If I haven't)
Once again and everything is okay
Still there is something missing
Like all the walls
(A little elf stares at me)
(Turns me in)
From his place ? himself
I am...

Pearl Jam - Sleight Of Hand
Routine was the theme
He'd wake up wash and pour himself into uniform
Something he hadn't imagined being
As the merging traffic passed
He found himself staring down at his own hands
Not remembering the change
Not recalling the plan
Was it?
He was okay
But wondering about wandering
Was his age by consequence
Or was he moved by sleight of hand?
Mondays were made to fall
Lost on a road he knew by heart
It was like a book he read in his sleep
Endlessly
Sometimes he hid in the radio
Watching others pull into their homes
While he was drifting
On a line of his own
Off the line of the side
Bye the by
As dirt turned to sand
As if moved by sleight of hand
When he reached the shore
Of his clip on world
He resurfaced to the norm
Organized his few things
His coat and keys
And he knew realizations would have to wait
'Til he had more time
More time
A time to dream to himself
He waves goodbye to his self
I'll see you on the other side
Another man moved by slight of hand

If you believed they put a man on the moon, man on the moon.
If you believe there's nothing up their sleeve, then nothing is cool.
If you believed they put a man on the moon, man on the moon.
If you believe there's nothing up their sleeve, then nothing is cool.
If you believed they put a man on the moon, man on the moon.
If you believe there's nothing up their sleeve, then nothing is cool.
If you believed they put a man on the moon, man on the moon.
If you believe there's nothing up their sleeve, then nothing is cool.
Napoleon XIV - I live in a split-level head.
I?ve lived in apartments, I?ve lived in a home
I travelled in trailers when I used to roam
But now in these places you won?t have me dead
?Cause I?m happy I live in a split-level head
I do what I want to, no worries, no care
If anyone bugs me I climb up my stairs
Way up to a level where I feel no threat
?Cause I?m happy I live in a split-level head
If you?re trying something, I couldn?t care less
I don?t rush for busses and trains are a mess
There?s no one to care for, I don?t need a bed
?Cause I?m happy I live in a split-level head
I like how I?m living, I?m nobody?s slave
My head?s above water, so don?t make a wave
There are no doors to lock and no dogs to be fed
?Cause I?m happy I live in a split-level head
Now why should I move when the neighborhood?s right?
No taxes to pay and no landlord to fight
Now I call this living, what?s more, like I said
?cause Im happy I live in a split-level head
Now you keep your ulcers, your ills, and what, too
You sure couldn?t have them and live like I do
You think I hace problems, but you do instead
?Cause I?m happy I live in a split-level head
I live with two people, I like both of them
He likes both of me and I like both of him
They?re my alter-ego and to them I?m wed
?Cause I?m happy I live in a split-level head
There?s no simple status in my neighborhood
And that kind of thinking, I think it?s so good
And I don?t take the lead when I like to be led
?Cause I?m happy I live in a split-level head
Tea Party - Midsummer Day
When you've decided to hold on to all that you've lost
When you've decided to hold on to all that you've lost
All this is nothing if she comes and tears you apart
All this is nothing if you hold the key to her heart
If you've decided to change what you thought was your way
This new way will take you to her and to midsummer day
All this is nothing if she comes and tears you apart
All this is nothing if you hold the key to her heart
And I'm crying in the night
And I'm waiting for her call
Won't you help me girl tonight
Cause I'm waiting for her call
And I'm crying in the night
And she's flowing from my mind
And the sky is turning black
And I'm running out of time
You'll shed a last tear if you miss what you thought was your way
This new way will take you to her and to midsummer day
All this is nothing if she comes and tears you apart
All this is nothing if you hold the key to my heart
All you are is in you
Black Label Society - Final Solution
Hell's rolling with you
Riding on your back
Harvest of terror
We all shall fade to black
Fields of depression
The wounds that never mend
The final solution
Bring it to an end
To an end
To an end
Inside this world of pain
Your beliefs of suicide
Denial and repression
Psychopathic pride
Iron determination
A will that cannot bend
A final solution
Bring it to an end
To an end
To an end
Suffering and sorrow
The casualties of war
Spirit has broke me
Broke forevermore
Pure assasination
The machine, it rolls again
Final solution
Bring it to an end
To an end
To an end
ANOTHER attempt at thread revival. SOMEONE post!
Steppenwolf - None Of Your Doing
If I could show you where I've been
Perhaps you'd know and never ask again
Could I forget the things I've seen
Perhaps I'd smile and we would be the same
I can't return to where you're goin'
What I have learned, it can't be undone
Don't blame yourself, don't you know
It was none of your doin'
All my faith got caught in a maze
Lost our dreams in a far away place
Now that I have seen you again
Can't believe your world's still the same
Sometimes I slip into the past
When life was sweet
I thought that it would always last
It was so easy to believe that all is well
They always catch the thief
I can't return to where you're goin'
What I have learned, it can't be undone
Don't blame yourself, don't you know
It was none of your doin'
All my faith got caught in a maze
Lost our dreams in a far away place
Now that I have seen you again
Can't believe your world's still the same

Gordon Lightfoot - Summer Side Of Life
He came down through fields of green
On the summer side of life
His love was ripe
There were no illusions
On the summer side of life
Only tenderness
And if you saw him now
You'd wonder why he would cry
The whole day long
There were young girls everywhere
On the summer side of life
They talked all night
To the young men that they knew
On the summer side of life
Goin' off to fight
And if you saw them now
You'd wonder why they would cry
The whole day long
He came down through fields of green
On the summer side of life
He prayed all night
Then he walked into a house
Where love had been misplaced
His chance to waste
And if you saw him now
You'd wonder why he would cry
The whole day long

The contents of a torrent I picked up called "2000-2006 Trance Singles (204 Tracks)".
Stone Temple Pilots - I Got You
Elvis - A Little Less Conversation (http://%22http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCIoverFhwI&feature=related%22%5BI) Remix
The song has been stuck in my head all week.

Console rips of all the songs from SSB:Brawl, or in other terms, a homebrew bootleg OST.

If you own a game, can you legally extract and listen to the music privately on it? Or must you only listen to it in the game itself? Seems silly, but I'm curious if anybody knows any facts on the law there.

I'm not sure. Although I doubt you'd get in any trouble, since the people of the video game industry aren't dicks about how you use or obtain their stuff like the people of some other industries, as long as you just use those recordings for yourself, you shouldn't be in any trouble. Look at OCR (www.ocremix.org). The people there make their own music that's largely inspired by copyrighted pieces. djpretzel clearly states in several places that if what they're doing is unappreciated or they violate some copyright in an unforgiveable way, then they'll comply by taking down the work. However, not only do a lot of people not care very much about things that old or that receive no monetary reward (for lack of better phrasing), but I'd imagine that a lot of composers that find out about things like OCR are actually pretty flattered that their fans liked their work so much that they made a tribute.
If you wanted something a little more concrete, I guess ripping music is about as legal as making your own ROM image from a game you legally own.
Zakk Wylde - Road Back Home
Soul Asylum - Shut Down
I've been vindicated
I've been loved and hated
I've been pulled aside and told that life was overrated
No, I don't believe it
I just can't conceive it
I can write all night but in the morning I can't read it
Oh no, don't know what's the matter
Stuck up on a ladder, scared of coming down
If I don't get what I want
And there ain't enough to go around
I become oblivious to the obvious
Just ridiculous
As I flip the pages
You're a time that ageless
In between us lies a calm before the storm that rages
Though we were related
Couldn't be separated
Tried to get ahead but only got decapitated
If I don't get what you want
And you don't get what I need
We become oblivious to the obvious
Just dysfunctional
Shut down
When I can't get keep from getting down
And I grow tired of hangin' 'round
I become invisible, unlivable
Just dysfunctional
Shut down
Unheilig - Sag Ja!
This band is quite cool. Sounds a bit like Rammstein.

Last night I was listening to Bob Dylan. Two nights ago, I was listening to Orgy (known for Blue Monday, and Fiction (Dreams in Digital)). For the last week, I've been listening to my collection of Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Today, it's been back and forth, but right now I'm listening to Eels' Daisies of the Galaxy again.

I've got my full music selection on my work computer currently on shuffle. It's more just background noise at the moment cause I'm working on detailed thingies at work (I hate SOP's, just for the record).
But at the moment -
"Yearnings of the Wind" off the ChronoTrigger Soundtrack

How the hell does a band that made a song about 7's make a song and video this amazing? I wish TMBG would do less children stuff though, especially when they have stuff like this.

No better way to help me space out at work than one of the best electronic albums of all time. Gotta love some trip-hop.
