I just made this desktop today. Personal info is blurred. I really like it, except for the Longhorn logo. It's all bitmapped on the edges but I can smooth that out later. The building is the UT Tower. They light it up to make a #1 whenever our football team is ranked as such or have won a huge game :D

My new theme is a complicated one...

First, I had to start using Emerald for my window decorator. Then I had to set up Compiz's Reflection plugin to use a custom "icy" image that I made. Then I had to configure generic color effects and icon packages.

Unfortunately you can't see the cool icy animations.

To everyone who constantly accuses Microsoft from stealing stuff from Linux, I point to Exhibit A: The BLATANTLY copied "glass" effect from Vista to Gnome.

Ubuntu team didn't do the stealing. Whoever made the pixmaps for the min/max/close buttons did, which is one guy who submitted it to a site not officially run by GNOME. The "glass" effect was implemented by me. Transparency is not a unique concept. Nice try though, babeh.

Seesh, does no one change their desktop/wallpaper around here, I actually had to use search for this thread. If I had a conscious, I would feel bad about reviving a thread after so long!

Anywho, yes, I like to keep my desktop as clean as possible, as a cluttered desktop is a sad desktop. Also, I made an new icon for every program on the dock, with everything being color coded. Basically;

Green - Media
Orange - Internet
Yellow - Folders
White - System
Pink - OC'ing related
Blue - Games

It's really not that bad, if I look at my memory Usage, Object Dock is at 12,172, with it peaking at 12,000 when being used, and that's on the smoothest settings, and as for Windowblinds, well, I'm actually unsure what it is under the process tab, but it is known to be very resource friendly. Honestly, they aren't that bad anymore, and I don't notice it slowing down either my main desktop, or my slow Vista laptop.

I remember seeing a wallpaper like that one, but it had more characters in the background!

Hmmm interesting, been using it for a few years now with no issues. I think most of our 120 person office uses it as well.

I mainly make use of profiles (as I undock my laptop all the time and move it around to different setups), wallpaper support (can you setup different wallpapers for different monitors in Vista yet?), and the smart task bar (love having a task bar for each monitor that only contains that monitor's applications).

I stole one of Ary's pictures because I thought it looked really cool. I don't think there is much of a problem with the picture. I just put it on stretch. I have a syncmaster 2232BW on digital setting. It says 2 MS with 3000:1 I don't think that is the ratio but that is what it says on top of my montior. Maybe that's the dynamic contrast but I do know I run my monitor on 1680 X 1050. So 16 to 1? Regardless, here it is.

Here it is. I had to use Ultramon to get it to center/size/stretch/whatever properly. Using Windows caused it to tile funky because it doesn't exactly fit my resolution (2560x1024).
