I know llama_egg has been excited for and advocating this game so I decided to do a little research and it actually looks pretty impressive and innovative.

It's a 3rd Person survival shooter horror, lawl. I watched a 5 minute video review from GameSpot (which you can see by clicking HERE (http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/deadspace/video/6199373/dead-space-video-review-1)). There are several innovations that set this game apart.

1) In order to keep the horror feel, the game menu is accessed in real time through a projected holograph in front of the character. This is shown in the video review but I cannot find a screenshot of it. This means that accessing the menu does not stop the action which the creators hope will enhance the tense feeling ofthe game.

2) There are also no on-screen info displays. Your character's health is represented by the blue bar going up his spine.

Each segment gradually depletes as your life is drained. Your ammo is also displayed via hologram when you get into a "ready-stance"

3) This is not a game where you can simply run through collecting headshots. Why? Because headshots don't kill these guys. The people behind the game seemed to have coined the term "Strategic Dismemberment" as the way to kill these monsters. What it means is that you have to successfully shoot off, cut off, or generally just dismember all of their limbs to make sure they don't get up again. The enemies also use light team tactics to try and kill you. They can nevigate the ventalation system in order to arrange a pincer form to attack you from both behind and in front. In other words, the enemies are no dummies.

When an immense mining ship, the USG Ishimura, comes into contact with a mysterious alien artifact in a remote star system, its communications with Earth are mysteriously cut off. Engineer Isaac Clarke is sent to repair the Ishimura?s communications array, but he arrives to find a living nightmare?the ship is a floating bloodbath, the crew unspeakably mutilated and infected by an ancient alien scourge. Clarke?s repair mission becomes one of survival as he fights not just to save himself, but to return the artifact to the planet ? at any cost.

Anyway, I'm starting to heavily consider getting this one for the PS3. It is also available for the PC and the X-Box 360. I attached a few screenshots, too.

Oh, I decided a few weeks ago I'm gonna get this after I get SH:H. Well... I think I need a PS3 first. But yeah.

I'm going to wait to get the windows version of it. It seems really good but some how Llama compared it to Resident Evil which doesn't bode well cause I disliked any RE/Silent Hill.

Dunno how you couldn't like RE4 D:

It has it's similarities, but differences as well. For example, the obvious is over-the-shoulder game play, upgradable weapons, armor, it being an action horror.

But yet, some things are completely different, for example, blowing off every limb off the guy thing as you scream like a little girl? Actually being scary, well, at the very least it keeps you tense.

I dunno, it's hard to explain, it the same and different at the same time.

Personally, I love it, it's creepy, being able to slow down time with technology can be entertaining (slow down creature and smash it in the face and laugh), and the telekinesis (whenever you get it that is) sounds like fun.

There are (to the best of my knowledge) only 7 weapons in the game, each with a primary and secondary mode. You also have an inventory where you'll be holding things like ammo, healing items, etc.

It really is a good game, and I recommend playing it, even if you only rent it for a single play through.

Oh, right. Forgot you could slow down time and use telekinesis in the game! :D

Slow down? Like bullet time? Meh, it sounds like the game could be too easy like FEAR. Though FEAR was a bit creepy especially with the random images and things it did. Doom III was anther good creepy one for me, even though I've beat it a crap load of times on the hardest difficult. Still when I get into the game, hearing something like a vent or tile fly up cause he's messing with you. I still do a 180 jump and shoot the ground.

And I didn't like RE4 because I just didn't. It was a ok game with awesome death scenes if you did die. I didn't like that I was forced to watch every movie to make sure there was no, OMG HIT THESE BUTTONS TO SAVE YOUR ASS! Especially with when you fight that general guy or at least talk to him. He tries many times to shiv you with the knife.

That and I just don't like the idea behind RE being a viri/parasites. And RE4 didn't care me much.

Well, if it helps any, GameSpot gave it a 9.0/10 and IGN gave it a 8.7/10. If nothing else, a rental probably couldn't hurt. If you get a used copy from GameStop, you can return it for a full refund if you do it within a week.

The problem is, you can't rent PC games. I refuse to play FPS games on the console if there is a windows port. Even if the graphics look the same as the PS3/360.

Though I think porting is silly and that each port should be made to run differently.(Aka the PC version should be the best graphics as possible. Within reason of course.)

I guess I could -rent- the 360 version and try it but I'd rather play the PC version. Besides, I think from waht I've seen movie wise and everything the game should be really good especially the fear factor/adrenline rush. Not to mention looking through any in game menus is actually in real time.(Such as inventory and etc as far as I understand the game.)

It's all about the mouse and keyboard, eh?

Yes it is, because a joystick is limited to sensitivity. Such as doing sniping shots(Which means touching the joystick slightly will make it go too far or is harder to aim.), doing 180 turn around or even strafing + firing.

There have been only a few games that have been good for the console for FPS which is The Darkness, Gears of War(Co-op ftw.) and a few others.

KM - it's not really a 'slow down time' thing, and more of just a targeted stasis effect. So there aren't any matrix-like dodges going on, but you can slow down a bad guy enough to punch them in the face a few times.

I see, well that is ok. Cause I can see using it to slow down one while you deal with two or more monsters.

So I finally got telekinesis last night, and holy shit batman, picking up explosive containers and throwing them at the enemies is win.

Also, the reason I didn't pick it up was because of EA's retarded DRM ideas. I would rather have not as tight controls then I would only being able to install a game a limited times (or possibly never if somehow EA dies). They controls aren't that bad. I'll admit, there has been times I've wanted tighter controls, and because of that I missed my shot or missed my "Oh em gee, panic button, slow down" shot".

Wait, they are doing the retarded DRM again?

Are you sure? Cause last time I check I think they learned their lesson cause of SPORE. If not, I guess it's going to be one of the new most DLed games ever.

After doing some searches, I couldn't find any official material that says the PC version of Dead Space would come with the DRM. However, several people (By forum posts (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/deadspace/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-45503284&pid=949616) or by comments (http://74.125.45.104/search?q=cache:5_kBZ1C_zGQJ:www.amazon.co.uk/Electronic-Arts-Dead-Space-PC/dp/B0019840GW+Dead+Space+PC+game+with+DRM&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=5&gl=us)) have claimed that Dead Space does have the DRM in place and every EA PC title that comes out will also have it.

Amazon.com Comment:

EA is using the SecuROM DRM with limited activations in all of their titles.

Here's a quote from one of their forums:

"I've been hearing your concerns about the DRM situation and wanted to get back to you with some information about our plans. In the case of Red Alert 3 (and all PC titles coming out of EA), we will use SecuROM - the same copy protection that the EALA RTS group has used on our last three titles. This time around, however, the copy protection will be configured to be more lenient than we've supported in the past. GameSpot Forums Post:

EA has stated that all of their PC games will have SecuROM, including Dead Space. Avoid it and get a console version.

Dead Space has some RE4 elements to it, but it's not retarded like RE4 is... I mean you can actually move and shoot at the same time.

It's a great game and it has some interesting twists in it. Also play it on hard at night with all the lights off. :)

Yeah right, like a limited number of installations is going to cause me to buy an inferior version.

I split the more debatey DRM posts off to another thread. If you'd like to talk about DRM in general, here's the link (http://www.unitedempire.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1230).

Regardless, I bought the game for the PC. It's good so far but the sheer fact that he takes up the whole left side of the screen is blah too much. They could've added a zoom out feature. I might post some screen shots to see if the graphics are any different from my comp to say an xbox or a PS3...

Though I must say I can kinda tell it's a port to PC, why? Cause some of the buttons were just weird such as a toggle ready stance? Hold ready stance?(Gears of war had a ready stance kinda) and a few other things. Oh well, it's still an awesome game.

I do apoligize for the spam but it seems that FRAPS is not an option since it leaves the videos ungodly huge.(1 minute = about 180 MBs even at recording 5 FPS.)

I guess I have to try anther option to try to record it.
