Plot To Assassinate Obama, Kill 102 Black People Disrupted

WASHINGTON (AP) - The ATF says it has broken up a plot to assassinate Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and shoot or decapitate 102 black people in a Tennessee murder spree.

In court records unsealed Monday, agents said they disrupted plans to rob a gun store and target an unnamed but predominantly African-American high school by two neo-Nazi skinheads. I was going to post this in headlines but I might as well make it a discussion or sorts. Do you think Obama will be assassinated?

For some reason, I just don't think it will happen (successfully, anyway). I've got nothing to back that up, of course, and logically, I could very well be wrong given this story and possible future stories to come but I'd like to think that we have grown as a society that it wouldn't matter if we have an African American president. Or I guess I should say, we've grown to an extent that risking life imprisonment or the death penalty just to make sure we put off having a black president for 4 more years seems like something of a stretch.

I mean, if the only attempts are from the KKK and skinheads like the above, then you have to assume we aren't dealing with the brightest of minds and therefore maybe their attempts will be as easily foiled as the story suggests. I dunno. What do you think?

They nabbed a bunch of meth heads who came up with the brilliant plan of "shooting him from a high vantage point" with a shotgun.

Needless to say, it wasn't like uncovering some vast conspiracy. These people definitely didn't have it all together.

I think here's a definite danger for Obama, but I think that if any attempt is made on his life, it's more than likely to come from a source that is disorganized, doesn't think too clearly, or some combination of the two.

I just looked it up. One story says they definitely planned to kill him. The other says there was no way they would have been able.

Denver's U.S. attorney is expected to speak on Tuesday afternoon about the arrests of four people suspected in a possible plot to shoot Barack Obama at his Thursday night acceptance speech in Denver. All are being held on either drug or weapons charges.

One of those suspects spoke exclusively to CBS4 investigative reporter Brian Maass from inside the Denver City Jail late Monday night and said his friends had discussed killing Obama.

"So your friends were saying threatening things about Obama?" Maass asked.

"Yeah," Nathan Johnson replied.

"It sounded like they didn't want him to be president?"

"Well, no," Johnson said.

Maass reported earlier Monday that one of the suspects told authorities they were "going to shoot Obama from a high vantage point using a ... rifle ... sighted at 750 yards."

Law enforcement sources told Maass that one of the suspects "was directly asked if they had come to Denver to kill Obama. He responded in the affirmative."The AG Report:

Following the press conference, the Associated Press reports that the men were no "true" threat to Obama.

U.S. Attorney Troy Eid (EYED) describes the men as "meth heads" who weren't capable of such an attack.

The investigation was triggered after police in the Denver suburb of Aurora stopped a truck that was swerving erratically early Sunday. Police say they found two high-powered rifles, two wigs, camouflage clothing, a bulletproof vest and two walkie-talkies in the truck. They say they also found three IDs in other people's names and what they believe to be methamphetamine.

The three men arrested Sunday face drug and gun counts.

From what I heard (read: heard my parents talking about after they saw it on Fox News), the shooters were going to go on a rampage across country, stopping at schools, shooting random black kids, and hopefully get a shot at Obama.

theres alot of people who would really dislike having an african american president. theres even people who still think african americans should still be slaves. i really think that obama will be in danger at all times, unless he sleeps inside a vault or something.

I think there'll be an attempt at his life too, though successful or not, there's lots of variables to take into account.

If it happens, it will spark a wild fire across the country. I think there would be riots or huge problems cause the action of a small group will brand people forever.

I think there will be multiple attempts, especially after he's elected. I think they will not succeed though. Just a hunch.
