Indeed.

Just finished Twilight Princess. That game was fun.

I'm glad you liked it. Was fun indeed.

Zelda is not sandbox. Actually, so far, it's been very much keeping me on a railroad, with a few stops for sidequests. I just finished the second dungeon, and I love the bow with the Wii Remote.

SpaceProg
01-02-2009, 22:41
Yeah, Zelda:Twilight Princess is very linear. At least, as far as the main story goes.

You'll find yourself in one temple after the other if you follow the game as it flows. Not much sandbox-ness to it.

Gio Takahashi

It's pretty linear as well, not much of a sandbox to it, and I agree, playing the game with Wii makes it a lot of fun.

I still haven't gotten very far in it yet. I want to fix that.

Anybody know if in Twilight Princess there's any reason to donate money to the guy in Hyrule Castle Town? Cuz the dialogue seems like the "wishing well" in LTTP, but I've spent 300 so far and got nothing, and money is getting hard to obtain.

Also, any tricks for getting money?

Killer_Man_
01-06-2009, 17:30
If I remember correctly you get a heart piece I think.

Find golden bugs or go for as long as you can in the test cavern in the desert thingie.

I found that there are TONS of hidden chests around with orange ruppees in dungeons and out. and That guy gives you a piece of heart if you give him 1000 ruppees

Seegtease
01-06-2009, 22:30
Yeah, there are a lot of chests, but you can only open them once.

I'm thinking along the lines of in OoT, in the entrance of Hyrule Castle Town, you could enter that first building, lay waste to pots, and come out over 50r richer. And repeat.

SpaceProg
01-06-2009, 23:01
I like all the Kitties!

=^..^=s a plenty.

That old woman that lives in the hidden village? Me in the future.

Love the music for that area too. Brings to mind many of the old western movies I've seen over the years.

Gio Takahashi
01-06-2009, 23:04
Oh, another thing. Look for the golden bugs. A single one gets you 50 ruppees, and getting a pair gets you an additional 100 ruppees.

I think the Boss fights in this game have the best improvement. Most of them are just so much fun...

Doest none like yon kitties? ;_;

Seegtease
01-07-2009, 00:40
I don't know much about the kitties, but I love the way Link holds puppies. It's cute. Well, I got my 1000 rupee heart piece (sheesh). I'm trying to put off the water temple as long as possible since I remember how much I hated it in OOT. Also, I want to have as much health as possible.

SpaceProg
01-07-2009, 00:46
The water temple in TP isn't so bad. The puzzles and things are there, but there's not half as much water-raising and lowering to worry about. Mostly water direction and getting it to flow where it needs to go for you to go forward will be your problems. Not too bad.

Killer_Man_
01-07-2009, 00:53
I can't remember if you have to give him 1k in one shot or 1k over time.

Seegtease
01-07-2009, 00:56
You can only give 30 or 50 at once. The idea was for it to be like the Link to the Past fountain, except he just has one silly line.

I can't remember if you have to give him 1k in one shot or 1k over time.

Nah you can give him the money in smaller numbers or large or anytime you want. it'll all add up.

and I agree, the Water temple wasn't so bad, actually. It's just freaking long. Most of the temples are freaking long compared to Ocarina of Time.

Sky Temple was fucking massive.

SpaceProg
01-07-2009, 05:04
Whew... Sky Temple... I think Sky Temple would give OoT's Water Temple a run for its money in magnitude and complexity.

Outstanding designs for all the temples, really.

Seegtease
01-07-2009, 22:54
They really make you wait a long time for the compass in dungeons so far. I always want it sooner, but I usually don't get it until I'm practically done.

SpaceProg
01-08-2009, 00:28
SILLY ZEET. COMPASSES ARE FOR TINGLES. Well.. maps, really, but there's usually compasses on maps in the bottom corner... oh forget it.

Seegtease
01-08-2009, 01:58
I know right? I want a Zelda compass. It's like Jack Sparrow's compass or something.

Gio Takahashi
01-09-2009, 00:06
Yeah, some compasses took annoyingly forever to get than other.

While the temples were really long as hell, most of the boss fights are just so damn fun. Like Sky temple boss? Holy crap!

Also, I like a lot of the subtle reference to Ocarina of Time as sequal. it's really nice.

Then there's Temple of Time, listening to the music from OoT. that was really fun :D

SpaceProg
01-09-2009, 00:08
Oh yeah. That temple just BEGGED to be delved more into. Glad they expanded on it in TP.

Gio Takahashi
01-09-2009, 00:11
Ah yeah, and that temple was quite fun too, despite the minor annoyances half way through. It seemed like it was the fastest temple.

Seegtease
01-09-2009, 00:14
I like to do dungeons in one sitting, so when they get too long my head-a-splode. Anyway, I finished bug hunting and heart hunting and am ready to go into the water temple. I think I have 18 heart pieces so far, I feel so healthy.

Bugs were fun. I can tell some were meant to require hookshot or something to get close to, but when sitting on Epona, they can be reached with the boomerang. Hax.

SpaceProg
01-09-2009, 00:16
The boomerang is the usual technique for out-of-reach bugs. I don't remember using the hookshot on any, but memory cheats, so... *shrugs*

Gio Takahashi
01-09-2009, 00:17
I don't think hookshot ever worked, at least I dont rmember using it. I just used the boomerang. Fun toy by the way.

01-09-2009, 00:20
What's the incentive to fishing other than the fishing hole being a really cool looking spot?

Gio Takahashi
01-09-2009, 00:27
I believe you can get a bottle and a piece of heart from the fishing hole.

Seegtease
01-09-2009, 04:45
I found the heart on a rock. But a bottle? You can never have too many bottles.

Gio Takahashi
01-09-2009, 10:45
the bottle is the one you have to fish for. Look for the dirty pond (You'll see a sign where it says "DO NOT THROW THINGS AWAY".

SpaceProg
01-09-2009, 20:14
You know the place that's on the other side of the little bridge separated from the main pond? That little pool where a lot of greengills can be caught? There's a bottle down there. It's random, and you catch it like a fish.

Seegtease
01-10-2009, 00:33
Noted. Now I have to get the Master Sword before I can get it, though, cuz I'm kinda a wolf. I was hoping to be able to control my wolf form soon. I know you can because I know some things would obviously require some kind of switching to access. You can tell a lot of what you're going to have access to in Zelda games.

SpaceProg
01-10-2009, 02:15
Yeah. Sorta like Metroid in that respect. Still gotta luv it.

Killer_Man_
01-10-2009, 06:57
You can boomerang those bugs? Fucknuts, I waited to get the hook shot so I could hook shot onto the tree that is usually by them. Now I should go back and get the rest of the bugs I didn't get. :|

Gio Takahashi
01-10-2009, 10:57
Yup. you can boomerang most of the bugs that are in hard to reach area, just remember that even though it will be boomeranged to you, you won't be able to "get it", as it will drop to the ground at your feet. After you get it, get out of the first person view and look for it.

Seegtease
01-10-2009, 12:42
Getting hidden skills all over the place now. Woot. I have 4, one is in an area I can't go yet, so I have to find 2 more stones I guess.

SpaceProg
01-10-2009, 13:18
I like how the howled tunes are mostly from OoT.

Seegtease
01-10-2009, 17:26
They sound really funny though. The first tune I tried to do, I thought I had it exactly right, and nothing happened, so I just figured I couldn't do it yet. Later I figured out I just didn't do it well enough. Blar!

SpaceProg
01-10-2009, 23:13
They sound funny sorta when it's just the howling you're doing freehand, but once the game takes over and adds the background music, the OoT tunes get far more recognisable.

It is a little annoying how picky the game can be on your getting the timing just right though.

EDIT: I almost forgot about the howled version of the Song of Healing which is from Majora's Mask, so both N64 games get represented.

I've been playing this game for the past few weeks, but I've been avoiding coming here because I was concerned that I might read something akin to a spoiler.

HOWEVER, I just have to say that this game is awesome. I don't even know where to begin, so I'll start with Malo. The little kid turned shopkeeper, who also has the driest and most sarcastic sense of humor of anyone I've met in the game so far.

I finally helped him take over the Castle Town shop, and almost shat my pants after I saw what he did to it.
The shopkeeper MOONWALKS. I can only think of one other game that has moonwalking, and it stars Michael Jackson

SpaceProg
01-30-2009, 19:59
Malo really does have the entrepreneur gift, that's for sure. If I was a shop owner, I'd want to be just like him. No customer is always right crap from me, hehe.

"Time is money, so stop wasting both."

Seegtease
01-30-2009, 20:35
Malo's personality is amazing. He's easily my favorite character. I just got his new shop as well. I was a bit disappointed with the armor, though. I was hoping my last piece of armor would be something I'd wear full-time.

Ever try talking to Epona as a wolf? It's kind of amusing. I should try to get a lot more of the animal dialogue in the game.

SpaceProg
01-30-2009, 21:02
I've tried talking to every living thing as a wolf... well... what wouldn't run from me anyway...
The cats (of course...) and the ducks at the fishing pond are my faves.

chefTENGU
01-30-2009, 23:11
I tried turning into a wolf at the fishing hole and the ducks seemed to have disappeared. I assumed I'd scared them off.

And I never even THOUGHT about talking to Epona. I'm gonna fix that ASAP.

SpaceProg
01-30-2009, 23:21
Yeah, I've talked to the horse too. The ducks seem to come and go. I think they may be swimming elsewhere around the lake. It could also depend on the weather and time of day too, mayhaps.

Seegtease
01-31-2009, 12:06
Epona sounds very smart, though it doesn't surprise me.

I find it odd that chickens don't flee from a wolf.

Gio Takahashi
02-01-2009, 13:32
I find it all that no animals flee from a wolf.

SpaceProg
02-01-2009, 17:31
Remember some of them say that they can tell Link is a nice wolf, or that he means them no harm. I think it's his eyes or something.
The animals at Ordon say they recognise his scent as being the same as the nice boy who lives there.

Seegtease
02-01-2009, 19:14
Maybe, but it's funny that they don't even run when seeing him at a distance, but all humans do.

Try running as a wolf through Hyrule town. It's a riot.

SpaceProg
02-01-2009, 20:19
I know, it's fun. Humans are so judgemental. ;)

Seegtease
02-01-2009, 23:05
I especially love the Hyrule guards.

They really put a lot of personality into not just important characters, but everybody in this game. It really shines above the other Zelda games in that aspect.

Gio Takahashi
02-02-2009, 01:33
I agree, it does. pretty much every character has their distinct personalities.

chefTENGU

Turn into a wolf and talk to what's-his-name that sells you the lantern and oil refills.

His older sister (the one who runs the canoe target practice game) is amusing to talk to, too, but you have to do it before you solve her dilemma and allow her to open for business again.

BUMP

I'm in the City in the Sky; I was hoping I'd find my last two bugs there, and it turns out to be one big dungeon!

I'm at a loss for where to find them (it's just the last pair, and I figure they gotta be somewhere I've already been through). The only problem is that the places I found all the other bugs leave only a few places left to look: Death Mountain, Snowpeak (not likely), the Gerudo Desert (I've already searched there twice and come up empty-handed, but it's big enough that I might have missed them), and Lake Hylia (again, another place I've searched front to back with nothing to show for it).

I'm not asking for help, because I really really want to find them myself, I'm just frustrated, is all. I should add that I've caught and therefore confirmed the locations for the Ants, Beetles, Mantises, Snails, Stag Beetles, Pill Bugs, Grasshoppers, Butterflies, Ladybugs, Dragonflies, and the walkingsticks (I can't remember what the game calls them).

I've got about 7 to give to Agitha, but my wallet's perpetually full, so I've been waiting until I either free up some room or get a bigger one (but I have this bad feeling that I won't get it until I give all the bugs to Agitha, since she's the one who gave me the big wallet in the first place).

And don't get me started on poes. It miss that little "SKULLTULLA FREE" icon TOOT added to your map screen after you'd found all the ones in an area. It made finding all 100 less maddening of an experience.

ARG.

Oh well, at least there's Fanadi to tell me where all the Pieces of Heart I can possibly get are located.

deathofcheese
02-21-2009, 12:54
The only one I know about from Lake Hylia was on the upper overhead path under the big tree, where all the slimes and skeleton dogs spawn.

chefTENGU
02-21-2009, 13:10
Yeah, that's the female mantis. The collection screen lists their location as the Great Bridge of Hylia instead of the lake itself, which makes me think that there might be another pair down there somewhere.

Since, after all, the grasshoppers are in the big part of Hyrule Field, but the walkingsticks are on the Bridge of Eldin.

Seegtease
02-21-2009, 14:35
Just so you know, without revealing anything more, I will say that 2 bugs (male and female of the same) are indeed in Gerudo desert. I'm only missing two bugs, and I don't think they are in any area I can go.

One more tip, not really a spoiler: Usually, and I've noticed this, every "zone" has 2 bugs (male and female). Something to keep in mind.

As for Poes, you can usually see them from so far away I don't find them too difficult. The problem is, most of them are underground/in caves.

As for the money problem, I usually keep the bugs until I need money. They ARE my wallet expansion, since they're an instant refill. I still really want that bigger wallet.

SpaceProg
02-21-2009, 15:08
The Oocoo are in an Escher Print entitled Another World II. ZAZZY!

chefTENGU
02-22-2009, 09:42
That just makes them awesomer. Their eyes kind of creep me out (except for the one you keep running into in every dungeon).

I had a dream about finding my missing bugs last night.

The poes weren't much of a problem for me when I was only trying to find 20 (the Arbiter's Grounds helped immensely with that). But then I went to see Jovanni and he was all like "THANK YOU DOGGIE BUT MY SOUL IS IN ANOTHER POE GO FIND 40 MORE"

As it is right now, I'm still missing 13 of them. I've been backtracking at night to look in places I cleared early on, before I could transform at will. I'll probably also try the three first dungeons again, since I've been finding two poes (not counting the four torch ones) in each other one.

Seegtease
02-22-2009, 17:43
lol. I have over 20, so it's clear there are more than 20. But he's probably going to tell you 40 isn't enough, either.

chefTENGU
02-22-2009, 20:56
40 more. As in grand total of 60. But his reward for 20 was pretty sweet, so hopefully the next one will be, too.

I'm not too far from it, though, I'm at 51. I still haven't checked the first three dungeons yet. I spent most of this afternoon getting my ass kicked under the Gerudo Mesa, I only had 3 faries and some lantern oil, though. Next time, I'll be heading down with 4 blue potions and I'll be the one doing the kicking.

I think I've gotten all the pieces of heart, too. Fanadi can't seem to find any more for me (I've got 18.6 right now... there's probably one more dungeon, which will most likely have 2 poes and 2 pieces of heart for me to snag).

Oh, and I finally caught the male dayfly. Royal pain in the ass, and the female is probably going to be just as bad. It's just about impossible to detect it visually (at least during the day) or audibly, so I think my best bet is to watch the sand for its shadow.

SpaceProg
02-22-2009, 21:40
I never bothered with Fanadi and just used GameFaqs to point out the ones I was at a loss at finding.

02-23-2009, 17:21
I have to admit, I'm addicted to guides. Too many times have I played a game guideless, and later on found out that I missed something great that I can never go back and get, thus making perfection impossible. As long as game developers keep pulling stunts like this, I will forever have to check guides.

It's like the Zodiac Spear in FF12. The only way (and I don't exaggerate when I say this, literally the only way) to know how to get the spear is to have a guide. To get the spear (aside from a 1/1000 chance in a chest) is to not open 4 specific chests in the game, and the game never gives you any indication as to which chests to avoid, or even that you are supposed to avoid them at all.

They actually sold the secret to the players guide company (bradygames maybe?). Of course, it got placed in FAQs since then, but the fact still remains that the game does not give you all the information you need. A guide is actually required.

So I live by them because of crap like that.

chefTENGU
02-23-2009, 20:13
I kicked much ass under Gerudo Mesa today, and I only needed to drink two of my blue potions.

It made me groan inwardly when I realized that the trio of darknuts that killed be before were the very last enemies I would have had to face, though. Oh well, at least I figured out a more effective combat strategy against them.

SpaceProg
02-23-2009, 20:55

That's usually what I do too.

chefTENGU
02-24-2009, 15:51
Speaking of the Darknuts, I think they had a really awesome incarnation in this game. Plus, there's really no gimmick or weak spot to exploit on them, either. Just reliance on what Mr. Deadface teaches you from the howling stones.

SpaceProg
02-24-2009, 16:28
Yeah I think they're better realised than the Wind Waker Darknuts (Though I liked them a lot too). At least as far as challenge and strategy. The WW Darknuts were too easy to disarm, what with the action button doing the fancy armor-cutting for you.

chefTENGU
02-27-2009, 19:46
I finally found that damn female dayfly, got my giant wallet, and got myself to 20 hearts.

But there were no poes in the dungeon. Arrg. I'm still sitting at 51. I didn't see any in the Forest Temple, I don't remember being any in the Goron Mines, and doubt there are any in the lakebed temple (but if I'm wrong, let me know).

I'm gonna run through all the areas at night to see if I come across any. Plus I happened upon that underground room under the Gerudo Desert that had two, so maybe there's more in other, similar places.

SpaceProg
02-27-2009, 20:16
There's a Poe Soul in the Snowpeak cavern that I missed the first time. You know, the one you have to go into with the ladder to get to the top of the mountain.

Let's see...

There's a poe somewhere in the sacred grove where you had to do that annoying business with the skull kid.

Another one I forgot is there's one in the glade where the Master Sword was. Wait until sundown and he'll show up.

There's a poe somewhere on the seventh and third floors of the Temple of Time.

I remember there being one behind an owl statue somewhere.

After the pussy-hunt game in the hidden town, there's a poe hanging around the upper level of the buildings. Nighttime makes it easier to see.

chefTENGU
02-28-2009, 09:07
I think I've already gotten all the ones you mentioned. The one in the snowpeak cave is really easy to miss, since you have to bust him out of the ice first.

I've still got around half of Hyrule Field to search, and I'm going to be combing through the earlier parts of the game as well. I'm pretty sure there's no more on Snowpeak (since I spent a night out there and got about three or so poes right after I cleared the ruins), but I'll probably check again.

I'm almost certain that I managed to get all the ones in the desert, since I've gone back and forth across it about 18,000 times looking for those damn dayflies, and expanded my search to include the moblin encampment, the entrance to the Arbiter's Grounds, and the Mirror Chamber. I did as much of my searching at night that I could, so I'd be better able to spot those little glowing bugs (and poes show up SO much easier than they do).

It just would make my search so much easier if there was a way I could automatically jump to night like in Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, and Windwaker.

I got the sword not too long ago (I just got to the Gerudo camp), but I can't seem to get back in there, and I know there's stuff I want in there, like the poe. Will I be able to get back in later?

Also, chef, there are a TON of holes in the ground. I remember after getting the Master Sword, in the room right before it, I think, I used my senses, and in the middle of the room was a place to dig with a poe inside. You'll need to run around with your dog and dig in pretty much any suspicious looking place, cuz I have a feeling those are the ones you're missing.

Did you get the poe that's right below the place in the lake where you pay to ride the chicken? You have to turn completely around and go under it, I think. I'm sure you noticed it though, since you can see poes at loooong range.

Yes. It won't be until you're ready to find the third mirror shard, though. If it eases your mind at all, you won't be able to find the second snail until that time, either.

If you're talking about the suspicious-looking ledge that's completely inaccessible by any means other than cucco, then yes, I've gotten that one already. I think there's a hidden hole to dive into there, too.

I've been diving into all the holes I'm coming across, but I've only found poes in the one I mentioned in the desert so far. I'll head back to the Sacred Grove and look for that hole you mentioned.

I'm kicking myself, trying to remember all the spots where I'd see a ring of grass and think "How odd. Oh well, what's over there?" and then be off.

You can go back there after you complete Snowpeak. Go to North Faron woods, where Midna helped you get across the gaps to the Grove as a wolf, and You'll meet Rusl. He'll give you a special golden chicken (which you can talk to as a wolf if you want), and that chicken will help you across without needing Midna's help.

I finally got around to finishing this today. I decided that I wanted to beat the game even though I didn't have all the poes (I actually only have 52... arrrrg).

The final dungeon was a lot of fun. It had just the right mix of puzzling and combat, but was straightforward enough so that it flowed quickly. And the final fight was awesome; it's divided into 4 parts, and each one is pretty kick-ass.

I was a bit disappointed by the ending, though. It wasn't BAD, per se, but it didn't give me the same satisfaction as the ending to Windwaker did.

Some day, I'll go back to find those last 8 poes. But for now, I'll try to get through one of the other games I have yet to make progress on.

Chef, did you figure out the torch thing in the last dungeon? My friend totally did not know how to raise the last stair to get up there. And he's a logical fellow, usually solves things fast but Zelda > than him.

Oh THAT torch thing, that one was tricky. There is a certain order that you must light the torches in, I think.

I solved it by standing on the farthest platform (the one rises the highest), then used my boomerang to put out the torch. You have to sort of throw it at a right angle to get it, though.

First, lock on to the wall, then eef over toward the torch and target that next. The boomerang will be able to make its way out from behind the wall and snuff out the torch, bringing you straight up.

What happened is I walked into the room and there is one torch lit and the other two are out. You light all three up and first two steps go up and the last one goes down. So you have to put the far right one out. I did it while on top of the second step, threw the boomerrang and then jumped as the step came up.

Oh THAT torch room. that one was pretty damn tricky, you had to jump at the top platform at the right time.

I must be a total Zelda zombie because I don't remember that causing me much trouble at all. Man I need to play through this game again.

It didn't cause me problems but I just laugh on how many people didn't realize you had to unlit the torch on the left wall on the last dungeon before going to ganon.

Yeah, the last dungeon and the boss fights bring back a lot of the old basics you learn at the beginning of the game. Deceptively simple.

Also, after having to fight 3 Darknuts simultaneously, I fear nothing else that game has to throw at me.

Darknuts are evil. I am masochistic enough to want a return to a scenario which closes the door behind you when you're in a room full of so many Darknuts, the screen slows, and for some strange reason, they're all wearing blue. Get out the bombs! Aieee!

Man, I need to get back and finish this. MMORPGs own me too bad. It's such a good game too.

MMORPG takes up way too much time for single player video games :/

Nah, I prefer single player to MMO. Hell, the only reason I play WoW because I love the guild I'm in, amazing community, but it's only slowed down my single player gaming a tad bit.

I only play MMORPGs and online play to play with people.

But I don't like MMORPGs ruin my other games.
