Probably because it doesn't seem to work reliably with photoalbum, I'll do some testing with this later.

I think it has to do with the URL that's linked. The URL isn't an actual image file, it's a location to the image file

The original IMG address that was posted was:
http://www.unitedempire.net/forums/picture.php?albumid=18&pictureid=301

But the actual image filename is:
user46_pic301_1241630947.jpg
