My dad's monitor stopped working after a power outage. It may be fried, but I'd just see if anybody has a diagnosis. It came with his gateway, the model is FPD1975W.

When plugged in, the monitor will not power on. Instead, it flickers from black, to grey, to white, then to a red/green/blue/white horizontal bars, from dark to light horizontally, then repeats non-stop. None of the buttons do anything, no "no signal" screen pops up. That's all I can get it to do.

Any specific part in it I could try to tweak or replace for this problem, or is it as good as garbage?

I would assume it's good as garbage by the sound of it. It's either way or your video card is dead. Did you try putting a different monitor in place of your Dad's? Or put your Dad's monitor on anther comp?

If putting a new monitor on your Dad's comp fails, then something else is wrong. If you put your Dad's monitor on anther computer and does the same.

I would assume it's good as garbage and I don't think many places refurbish monitors.

That sounds like it's trying to diagnose itself or something. It sounds like the laptop video tests you can run from BIOS, as well as the DirectX tests you can run in Windows. If it's stuck in that mode, then yeah, sounds like it's fried. But if you can find a guide on it, maybe someone out there has done something with it.

He got a new monitor. I kinda wanted this one, lol. It doesn't even need to be hooked up to a computer - it starts doing this the moment it's plugged in. It also buzzes.
