Is that really surprising, I seem to listen to stuff that alot of people seem to go "eh..?" about. Also, I salute Rondo for the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, an amazing band it is.
And because somehow I completely forgot about them; The Shins.

haha! Llama's a ska fan! I've seen Streetlight, Flatliners, Caddies and the Toasters live. I /love/ a good ska show. There aren't enough in Montreal anymore though, two years ago it was way better.
That said, favorite band? I'll try not to go on too long, but here are a couple I'm a big fan of:
The Fugitives
Sunset Rubdown
Destroyer
Bob Dylan
Broken Social Scene
Forest City Lovers
Lake of Stew
Old Crow Medicine Show
Crystal Castles
Scout Niblett
I'm cutting myself off there. The list could go on much longer though.

Indeed I am, my friend got my hooked on Streetlight a couple years ago, and my love for ska has been growing ever sense. And I dunno, I've been finding the ska scene getting somewhat scarce, haven't been finding anything really...new as of late.

I don't listen to much mainstream music anymore.
Some composers I like:
Motoi Sakuraba (Star Ocean)
Nobou Uematsu (Final Fantasy)
Jeremy Soule (Secret of Evermore, Dungeon Siege, Morrowind)
Harry Gregson-Williams (Metal Gear Solid Series)
You've switched to mainstream video game music though! :)

You've switched to mainstream video game music though! :)
Eh, most of the obscure stuff should stay that way, in my opinion. I've heard some, but one soundtrack that one composer did isn't enough to put him on a favorite list. He'd have to have a few hits (to me, anyway).
And so what if I like Nobou - he really has some good work. You can't deny that.
Mainstream video game music is an oxymoron anyway.

Yes, because we should not share music with people, expose them to new things, help out the artist with getting their word/music out. Let's lock away all "obscure" music so nobody else can hear it but a few elite and enlightened listeners. Let's keep it obscure, fuck those other people.

Never said anything against liking Nobou. O.o I enjoy Nobou quite a bit myself. There is nothing wrong with listening to mainstream video game music, just as there is nothing wrong with listening to "mainstream music". :)

If this were 10 years ago, I would completely agree with you. Thankfully, the world of video game music has become quite popular. Top 40 Radio Popular? No, not with Clear Channel controlling everything, but there are some video game music radio stations popping up or stations that have video game music time slots. :)
While the sale of video game soundtracks is not as popular in the US as it is in Japan, that still doesn't mean it isn't popular. Most kids these days download music, as do most of this last generation. Go into a high school and you can find tons of video game music on people's MP3 Players. In college? Even more.
Just take a look at video game concert series's, they sell out instantly and often have masses of people waiting to find spare tickets. It's not just the traditional gamers either. One can't deny video games touch nearly ever "clique" of kids these days, and they all get hooked on the music... even if it isn't the main genre they listen to.
Mainstream Video Game Music = Music from mainstream games. Every composer you listed off makes music for mainstream game. Thus my comment.

About the obscure stuff, I meant that in a way that I end up not liking most of it, except for a select few albums or songs, so I don't care about sharing it.
I've got no problem with people listening to mainstream mainstream music, I just don't care for it personally :)
But as for "mainstream game" let's put it this way: if you went into, say, work or a school and started talking about music favorites, and started listing your favored composers or game albums, most people would look at you funny in the very least if they didn't say anything about unusual tastes. That alone is reason for me to never consider game music mainstream, no matter how popular the games were. And even the games I listed aren't technically mainstream. You know what kind of games sell the most? Sports. Why do you think they make so many?
So even with the most liberal use of the word mainstream, the music I listen to is not :)
