SP your the one that made me interested in Silent Hill games because you used to talk about them so much on NHF. I want to play some but all I have really found is SH4 and I don't like it that much.

I played some Resident Evil 4 today.

SpaceProg
06-01-2008, 16:15
Resident Evil 4 is cool.

Silent Hill 1 (PS1) is getting to be hard to find since some shops that sell used games have stopped carrying PS1 games.
Silent Hill 2 (PS2/Xbox I've run across a few times in places like GameStop and Electronics Boutique
Silent Hill 3 (PS2)Is about as common in GameStop and the like as SH2.
Silent Hill 4 (PS2/Xbox) Oddly enough I don't see it that much, but as you've already tried it and don't like it, that's just as well. :)
Silent Hill Origins (PSP/PS2) I have the PS2 port. The games are pretty much identical except for a bit of anti-aliasing and resolution changes. It's a bit common since it's not been out for that long.

Oh, and most of them from what it looks like were hacked/created to trade with. By that I mean, how the fuck do you have a level 1 of a second evo form? Lol. Silly Nintendo and them not putting anti cheating on their trade servers.

I had to play Prince of Persia: Rival Swords (PSP) for my girlfriend for a second last night. She got stuck and i had to figure out how to get passed some closed gate. Rival Swords is a direct port of the PS2 title, Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones (PS2). It's very fun. If you like the God of War games, you'll like the Prince of Persia games. Very similar in gameplay with a few cool little differences (You can bend time in PoP, hehe)

Quite annoying little game, can't recommend it to anyone.

First stage: The installation
Ok, this one was quite easy, all I had to do is wait.
I managed to get a hold of a version that does unattended install, didn't need to do anything.
Since it took a while, I took some beer in the meanwhile.

Second stage: Driver madness
Finally! Something to do, this is where I needed to install some drivers, luckily the version I had was bundled with most of them.
Only two beers were consumed in this stage.

Stage three: Update that shit!
The great update/reboot/update/reboot annoyance.
Pretty easy stage overall, just frustrating.
6 beers consumed during this stage.

Stage four / Final stage: Softwarez
Now this certainly is the final stage!
I need to reinstall the software I used to have.
I think I've got most of them but I'm still stuck on this one.
10 beers and going...

RonDo
07-09-2008, 15:49
I've heard of rubber banding...mostly in online games. I'd move up to a spot on the map, only to be quickly shot back to where I just was.

As for Rubber Band AI, maybe it is a way the computer just magically catches up to you in a heartbeat..then hangs with you once caught up.

Seegtease
07-09-2008, 20:42
Mario Kart 64 is a prime example, I know. I think maybe the GC Mario Kart, but I know the 64 one is bad. The opponents will actually move above their speed limit if you are ahead of them. Also, further back you are, better items you get.

But the computer actually gets speed hax in last place, and I'm not just mad because they beat me. They really do. That's rubber banding. The SNES Mario Kart wasn't bad. If you were good enough, you can lap second place.

In Mario Kart 64, you can do the trick in Wario's Stadium to cut away half the track, and watch the other racers go at astronomical rates to catch up. It's lame.

Killer_Man_
07-09-2008, 23:27
Yeah basically when you are so far ahead of the AI, the AI picks up/cheats so it's up to par with you. Kinda like when you pull on a rubber band so far, it either snaps(You lose) or the back end slips and the rubber band flies.

From what I've been told by Chef, who turned me onto the game, there's quite a few additions. The gameplay has been improved, as well as additional items and things to do/collect. You can make constellations and design the flag now. There's more personality to the characters as well.

I've never played the GC one. I dunno if I should or not. I can get it pretty cheap now...

Yes, Wild World has pretty much all the old features as well as some new ones. Seems like we have more furniture too. But the bug catching, fish catching, fossil collection, and painting collections are all there, though I like the fish better in this one, and in general Wild World is better.

I hope they refined the HRA point system a little more, and made quests a little more creative, maybe. I hope they didn't change the fishing system to something annoying and troublesome. I may want to try it.

SpaceProg
07-11-2008, 22:19
It's pretty fun and addictive, I must say. The graphics are very close to the original, except for a little jaggedness. Not too bad, think of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass.

The HRA is pretty involved from what I've read. There's color and fung shui attributes that are graded. If that's like the original or not, I don't know.

Fishing is fun, and you can donate the fish to the museum in the aquarium section. Or sell them.

Seegtease
07-11-2008, 22:43
Yeah, I always fill museum first, sell second. In the original AC, you could make a fortune selling red snapper, barred knifejaws, and coelacanth.

I don't have a DS yet, but I see a lot of great games for it (unlike PSP).

SpaceProg

I just finished XIII today, and I did enjoy it. It cost me $4 but I could have easily paid $12 in retrospect. The ending, though it was with a twist, was so abrupt as to be entirely lame, and other than playing it again to understand the story better or just own the enemies, there is no replay value. (PS2 multiplayer isn't an option for me.)

One thing I noticed when I started was that a major character is voiced by Adam West. What I didn't know until the credits rolled was that the main character is voiced by David Duchovny! I guess we know what it was he managed to do between X-Files franchise installments.

Z
08-06-2008, 21:56
Ya, special edition is exactly the same except the difficulty isn't nearly as high as it was in the original release. Many people complained the the original DMC3 release was waaay to difficult than it needed to be so, while you can still play Hard mode in the special edition, you also have an easy mode available to you if you want it.

Virgil (his twin brother) becomes the extra playable character, costumes (like the original DMC costume) can be unlocked and so an. As far as what all the extra content is, I'm not sure (I can't find the original box) but there is definitely some extra stuff :D

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Man, what a let-down. It was fun, it had the classic "metroid exploration/artifact hunt" vibe down, and it had amazing art as well as solid music and voice acting. But there was so much they could've done that they hinted at but didn't do.

I really got the feeling that at this point the writers were just like, "*sigh* ok guys, we've got this phazon, we need to get rid of it. And we've also got this spin-off game that introduces a bunch of rivals for Samus. How can we work them all in? Oh yeah, let's not let Dark Samus die just yet. Hmm...." and then just gave up from there.

Why weren't there space battles? You could collect ship ammunition. You could activate shields. You could activate the guns on Samus' gunship. You could input transmission codes and activate thrusters. They could've done so much better with the storyline and elements they had, but they just threw what they had into a giant pot, stirred it a bit and cooked whatever came out, without even trying to get some idea of where they wanted to go.

And the special Wiimote interaction? Oh, you mean the same godamn "push the remote towards the screen, rotate counterclockwise", "lift the wiimote up, now put it down", "keep trying to shoot things that are moving very fast because pointing at the screen to shoot is fun!" puzzles over and over again?!? Cmon, it's not hard to take a great concept (or even not that great of a concept) and make a great game out of it.

Yes, she did and yes, Phaaze blew up. But it was just "ok, you step on Phaaze and, oh no! Too much Phazon! You're stuck in hypermode but you can't vent. Come over here and shoot these bosses that have taken pretty much a back seat and have come out of nowhere and they'll die and everyone will be happy!" The planet explodes, without an escape sequence, a Metroid standby, and seemingly without enough time for Samus to get to her gunship. Oh but wait, here's Samus doing a flyby and saying Mission Complete. LAME.

I recently have stopped playing brawr cause of two reasons. Majority of the people don't like my play style(Defensive aggressive) and as well the sheer fact that I play Ike.(I don't know why people say Ike is over powered when Snake has a bunch of abuses with the frames. Such as the charge tackle + upward smash auto hit.)

And the fact that I've played in tournies and remember why I don't play in tournies ever.(Not even in SC anymore.) Just for the sheer fact that, I don't know, people like to abuse the shit out of the game to be 'pro.'

KM: I don't really see Ike as overpowered, as long as you can figure out how to get away from his sword, which can be a bitch to avoid. All the Fire Emblem characters were like that, ridiculous power/reach with their swords.

However, Pit is pretty annoying, too. Even though I don't see him as one of the faster characters (I could be wrong), I couldn't ever get close to him as Fox, Captain Falcon or Pikachu when I was playing a friend last weekend. I worked off steam after five successive ridiculous defeats at the hands of Pit by going into a special match of low grav, 300% dam, mega, invisible, projectile-reflecting with Ike and just up-A attacked the whole time (the smash attack where he swings up and behind him before swinging in front of him). I think I won a 99-stock match with 30+ stock left. XD

Lisa bought Sonic: Unleashed and I decided to play it for a few levels. It's actually not bad. It's kinda like God of War (during the werehog levels) only not as good, heh. In the Sonic levels, it's pretty fast-paced, fluid movement through all the levels. We had played the last next-gen sonic game and it was horrible so our expectations for this one were incredibly low so we were pleasantly surprised that, instead of being a horrible game, it is simply a mediocre one, heh.

Before that, we bought the newest Prince of Persia. This game, in story, is waaaay different than the rest of the series. It's a new protagonist and new gameplay (You actuall play the entire game accompanied by a magic woman who helps you long-jump and whatnot)

It seems the entire focus of the game is wall-puzzles for the sake of having wall-puzzles. In the other Prince of Persias, most of the wall puzzles were part of a palace or rooftops or whatever. In the newest game, it's just a massive amount of wall-puzzles that you have to navigate through that have no practical use with the environment. People who like the gameplay aspect of Prince of Persia will probably enjoy this title but those looking for a story should venture elsewhere. The story in the newest Prince of Persia not only doesn't make sense but the game ends in a "TO BE CONTINUED" which I hate.

I've put roughly a million hours into Zelda: Phantom Hourglass over the last week. Truly stunning. I'm probably the last person on earth to get a DS and to play it, but I'm thoroughly enjoying playing it. Ports of old games to the DS aren't bad, but Phantom Hourglass actually takes advantage of all the new features (stylus, microphone, heck even the sleep function).

The only thing I don't like, and this is a gripe with any DS game, is that it uses the Microphone. Things like blowing into the microphone to blow out candles? A clever novelty. But don't have me do things like yell into it. Try not to forget that this is a portable gaming system. I play it in public on the bus, late at night when I'm not supposed to be screaming, etc. If I'm sitting in the library and I yell "SALVAGE ARM" at my DS, people are going to stare at me like I'm insane.

....thankfully, in most cases it's easy to fool the system by blowing into the microphone rather than yelling. Yay for cheap voice recognition algorithms.

And Ary, you are not the last person to play it. I only have Pokemon Pearl for the DS cause I've been lazy for the past two or so years that I've had it. It was mostly for the GBA + Pokemon Pearl. I want to get castlevainia and zelda for the DS but I've been going meh, I'll beat it and never play it again syndrome. Hee hee. I almost slapped myself after that part, when I talked to the assistant and he said something along the lines of "You know, you could have just tried snapping your fingers or making some other loud noise, because it would be really silly to yell SALVAGE ARM randomly like that."

The DS doesn't know language, so the microphone is easy to fool.

Oh, I got Animal Crossing: City Folk. It's very very much like the Gamecube version, but with more bells and whistles, and fine tuning. Obviously, it's got the Wi-Fi stuff, which makes a huge difference if you've got friends (CHEF GET IT NOW), but you can also go to the city and do some random stuff. They have interesting, but not vital use of the Wii Remote. Nevertheless, it's still more satisfying to swing it to reel in a fish instead of hitting A.

The game starts out exactly the same, with the same dilemma. Houses for players aren't all in one spot, and anything can be anywhere, as far as I know. Nook's is near the coast for me, along with my house.

Basically, it's AC for Gamecube + Graphical overhaul + new features + online play. If you're expecting a drastically different game, you won't get it. If you liked the original, but just wanted MORE of it, you're picking the right game.

If you've not played the original, but like games that you don't really beat, but continually upgrade your character (via clothing, house layout, city landscaping), like an MMORPG but without combat, you'd like it.

L4D, co-op at a friend's house. I think I will always prefer mouse and keyboard for shooters, but the game handles very well with a 360 controller. Awesome game overall. Even the friendly AI is pretty smart, although sometimes they place healing or helping someone stand up at too high of a priority. Still, it's probably one of the only games I've ever played where the computer controlled allies are actually helpful most of the time.

Killer_Man_
02-03-2009, 18:48
What is more silly about the AI is when they heal someone and your in black and white and they are the only ones who have med packs.

llama_egg
02-03-2009, 19:06
I've actually killed the AI before if they have a medpack, and while the AI is actually not to shabby on lower difficulties, it's nothing but frustration on expert

Trogdor
02-03-2009, 20:57
I experienced a good amount of frustration due to them, but it was still heads and shoulders above most partner AI in video games. Hell, in most games having an AI partner is roughly about as bad as having to do an escort quest in WoW (or any game with escort quests, really). At least these guys shoot at things and have a decent aim, and don't get stuck every few seconds like I've come to expect with AI. :)

Anyway, I love how many awesome non-scripted things have happened to me in this game. So far the best thing was when I had to throw a molotov at my friend and one of our AI buddies, since they were lying next to a tank. I needed to reload badly, so it was either molotov or get raped. We were relatively close to the safe house though, so it all worked out.

02-04-2009, 03:39
You should do what I do sometimes at co-op/VS. If I am close enough to the safe house to make it, I'll make a dash for it and turn around to shoot/melee anyone that gets near me. That way if they die Ill shut the door and hey we made it + they are at 70ish health.

llama_egg
02-04-2009, 04:33
That sometime works in co-op, but is a horrible idea in VS. You make more points for every living survivor, so while sure, you made it, the other team could easily over take you.

As for co-op, it sometime works when near the end of the game, and only because the safe houses will actually hold Tier 2 weapons as well as the extra pistol, which in my opinion is more important then an extra 30 health (which goes down mighty fast in expert).

Oh, and last time I checked, melee does no damage to team mates...only annoys them.

Killer_Man_
02-04-2009, 11:32
Yeah Melee does nothing....

Yes but when the game is a matter of only 20 points and the highest score is about 500.... I think just me getting there and us getting 100 points is more important than us losing because we were the only ones who actually finished one part of the level.

Namco X Capcom, it's finally translated (http://transgen.890m.com/download.php?view.4).

Finding the game was a pain, though.

Other than the usual hour or so of MapleStory, I actually started a new game (to me) over the weekend - Naruto: Rise of the Ninja. Yes, totally unexpected that I would have picked it up, but the reviews on it were pretty good and it was cheap at GameStop.

It's actually a pretty awesome game as far as the main village goes (the Leaf Village). You can explore a lot and climb on pretty much anything. The game follows the anime as far as the main storyline goes, but there are tons of little sidequests (which I totally enjoy).

Resident Evil 5, on advanced, as I pull my hair out at the difficulty from both the game itself and the retarded team mate AI (I'm seriously, I think she has down syndrome, she was honestly trying to shoot through me).

It has it's problems, but it's still an enjoyable game.

Super Smash Bros. Melee (GC)

I've actually never played this before, having only played the original. The new Adventure option seems a little unnecessary for my tastes. It's also been slightly difficult getting used to the Game Cube controls again. Lisa and I went to Game Over Videogames and bought this, Alladin for the SEGA Genesis, and were going to try and get Battletoads vs Double Dragon but they were sold out of that one.

I'm also trying to find a Marvel vs Capcom game but no luck so far.

Oh, I forgot to mention Lisa bought Donkey Konga 2. It's like Guitar hero with drums, sorta, heh, except the drum beats are more distracting and annoying rather than cool. They certainly don't flow well with the background music. She likes it, though, so good for her, I guess.

Trog and I played some Age of Mythology the other day. I tend to find the game overall a better game than Age of Empires 2. You have most of the basic ideas from AoE2, but you have races that are VERY unique and have entirely different playstyles, rather than just a few different units.

Also, the pathfinding is the best I've seen for an RTS, and enemies won't go through gates that are open.

The programmers of that game must think like me.

Picked up Pokemon Platinum. I was resisting it for a while, but it's hard to resist for long when the game's only $35, there's nonstop advertising for it on the tvs at work.

Also, MvC2 on the PS2 kicked ass. Except for the music, but that was the same on all platforms.

Super Mario RPG (SNES)

I finally was able to get my cartridge to play after doing a thorough Q-tip + alcohol cleaning. I had to do the same for my Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past cartridge. I recently played both and became very happy and nostalgic.

Wii
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. I sat down to beat the game, but I still need to find the last 8 poes OR I AM A FAILURE.

360
Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection. Totally sweet. Been playing Streets of Rage 2, Shining Force, a little of Bonanza Bros. (mostly just to get the achievement), and a lot of Shining in the Darkness. I think it's kind of funny that my magic users are almost as tank-esque as my main character.

DS
Animal Crossing: Wild World (a little bit each day), Pokemon Platinum, and Picross DS. One of the things I really like about my DS is being able to play it while watching TV while I get ready for bed. I'd like to complete the puzzles in Picross and CrossworDS and then move on through all the rest of my titles.

Xbox
I can't remember. I just really need to pick up Jade Empire again. I was in the middle of my magic-using aggro-lesbian game, and then I wanted to do a balanced male with a "greedy streak." And by that I mean go to bed with Dawn Star and Silk Fox at the same time (simultaneous lovin', baby).

PS2
Played a little bit of Samurai Warriors with my brother-in-law recently, since he started a game of EUIII as a sengoku state in Japan. Then I briefly switched over to Sega Genesis Collection (Columns and Golden Axe) before heading home.

Are you playing the NES one or Link to the past?

I hate the NES one, just for the sheer fact it's more about roaming and testing things out. I had to look up in a FAQ once because I couldn't find the last triforce piece. :\

chefTENGU

The NES one.

I keep forgetting to use my boomerang. I really should be using it to stun fools more often (and being able to retrieve items from a distance is nice).

I think you can do a lot of sequence breaking in Zelda 1, due to the nature of keys in that game. I should try it some time, but to be honest, I never did bother to finish that game entirely. I should.

chefTENGU
05-14-2009, 13:30
I only ever managed to get through it with heavy help from an FAQ. I'd like to try to do it without this time, but to be fair, it IS a game that you seriously need a manual for.

Killer_Man_
05-14-2009, 15:30
You can do a lot of breaking in LoZ. Because you aren't forced in a certain way to get things. Though, that's only if you can handle killing things with more than three hits.

Which is why I'm trying to do the dungeons in order. I found the location of the 8th one, but there's no way in hell I'm traipsing through there without a magical sword in hand.

I popped Two Worlds into my 360 for about 15 minutes before deciding that I'm going to have to spend more time with the manual before it will become enjoyable (big letdown so far, but then again, my expectations weren't very high to begin with).

Popped Fable II back in, and my happiness resumed. Finding a condom in a treasure chest is a lot more satisfying than it really should be.

I popped Final Fantasy III back into my DS this weekend and restarted my game.

Ugh. It still bothers me how they changed the beginning so much from the original (your four characters now have actual "names" and "identities," you don't start with all four in your party, you don't get your jobs until after you beat Djinn...), but it's still fun.

I miss my Onion Knight class, though. "Freelancer?" Pfft. They even reworked it so that it has wider weapon and armor capability, as well as some magic usage. Of course, that sort of thing was necessary, since you don't get the jobs now until after you clear the Sealed Cave, and venturing inside as a group of 4 Onion Knights would definitely have been suicide.

Oh, I'm not trying to be too harsh on it. It's still one of my most favorite games in the series (for some reason, they tend to come in multiples of 3... 3, 6, 9... though the jury's still out on 12 since I haven't beaten it yet).

Got a $50 PSN card a few days ago, and along with some purchases in PS Home, I got Tekken 5: Dark Ressurrection's online bundle, so my (still hopeful) girl and I could actually have something to play together. Needless to say, I've been playing that, primarily. And it's the last one I've played.

Thanks to gamefly, and me accidentially forgetting to cancel it, I was able to rent Dynasty Warriors 6 Empires. Wow, they completely revolutionized Empire. It's much more realistic now.

Short story, it's like as if they mixed the best of Dynasty Warriors 4 (Extreme legends and empires, especially) into this. Create an officer mode is MUCH more customizable than ever.

Originally, you can only pretty much be treated as a ruler, by handing out policies, orders, etc. Now you can be an officer, or even a vagrant officer (like a ronin in japan). During the gameplay, you can choose which ruler to join, and you can choose to leave and join another ruler. Hell you can even defect in some battle games.

apparently you can also marry, or become sworn brother with one of your officer friend.

Aside from "assignments" which are pretty much the normal battle that are given to you by your ruler, you also have mercenary mode during the empire gameplay, which works EXTREMELY similar to Dynasty Warriors 4- XL: Xtreme mode, where you carry out several odd jobs for people as you "journey" the land.

There's definitely no doubt that Koei managed to make DW6E definitely the best of the empire game ever.

Killer_Man_
06-26-2009, 13:52
Hmm, since it sounds that good, I might just get it. Is DW6E just like Samurai Warrior 2 Empires? I don't know if you played it but I know you said it was much better than the DWE was just the same as SW2.

I mean can you pick your little spot like in SW2, build up and conquer china?

Gio Takahashi
06-26-2009, 13:56
DWE6 is much better than Samurai Warriors 2 Empires. There's TONS of interaction. You can join a ruler, and help him reunite china, or you can overthrow him, leave him, betray, etc.

Killer_Man_
06-26-2009, 15:13
I mean as in can you be your own little faction/clan to reunite China under your rule. Yanno? Like you would in SW2 Empires. You picked a fief, be the lord and own people.

Gio Takahashi
06-26-2009, 15:28
Yeah, there's no "clan" but you can be a ruler, if you want.
