So, for those of you who've managed to get your foot in the door, what do you think? Bastard child of Facebook and Twitter? Or so much more?

Incidentally, if anyone wants/needs an invite, let me know.

I got an invite from a friend of mine, but I haven't signed up yet.

Is it worth it for someone who wants absolutely nothing to do with Facebook or Twitter?

Facebook with more circles less "JOIN MY FARMVILLE". Though I haven't really done anything with it yet other than sign up.

Personally, I'm a fan of Google +, it's a huge improvement from Facebook as it is (and facebook is far more annoying over the past year and isn't gonna get any better.)

Anyone that has google + should inform me of this so I can add you guys to my circle.

Add my wife.

I sent her an invite and promptly deleted my Google+ page. I'm just not interested in social networking sites, period.

However, I do like that Google+ makes it possible to prevent people you don't want (i.e., prospective employers) from searching out and viewing your profile if you don't want them to.

Even so, now that people have let Facebook utterly violate their rights to privacy, prospective employers are starting to feel entitled to more and more personal information, anyway. A county in Oklahoma's police force is even requiring that prospective hires surrender their Facebook passwords so they can not only view your page, but see all the recent changes you've made to it, just to ensure that you're not trying to hide anything from them.

I'd like to join at some point, but I'm not really motivated yet. I doubt I would close one over the other.

I think it'll be hilarious when Google+ makes a privacy blunder at some point and then everyone starts talking about how they'll threaten to leave (but never make good on it) if the problem isn't fixed NOW.

and it would be at that point i would just DELETE my facebook - a company can't make me surrender my password, but if it means keeping a job, the hell with it?

Eh, I never heard of any violation like that Chef but even then, to be honest, that's a violation of privacy. Isn't that like a federal law?

And you can set your facebook to have no one can view it. All people can see on mine is that I am a male and I live in Wisconsin. So ha.

yea i think you can make it so that people cant' search for you at all.. or see post on a friends wall or anything. I used to have mine like that - and then i started college and it was just easier to say 'add me on facebook" then to look up everyone myself.. but i'm still in limited search i think its called "friends of friends" now. so if your not friends with someone on facebook - you can't search me :) (but i may go back to no search when i start looking for a job)

If you want to go through the expensive, years-long, arduous process of suing the State of Oklahoma (and likely taking them all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court) over it, feel free.

Until someone does, that law shall remain as written until it is repealed.

It wouldn't be hard to do but if perhaps someone would go pro-bono.

Ever since what I call "the great invasion" of 2007 (an ex-friend from a Christian forum googling me, then making me look like this horrible person to everyone else), I keep as much on social networking as private as I can. NOBODY gets added, and NOBODY knows the goings on in my life, unless I know them in person, we have history, and/or I know for damn sure I'm not gonna be a part of their rumor mill. I have even denied requests from my own FAMILY, if that says anything. Trust is a five-letter word now, and it's not something I easily instill in people these days. You will earn it.

As far as employers go, this is ten-fold. If they're that paranoid about me, obviously they don't need me. That's how I see the whole thing. Fortunately, none of my past employers have ever tried to delve into that stuff to my knowledge. But if they did, you can bet that I'd have put in my two weeks notice as soon as possible. Collect my last paycheck, and hit the road. All your employer should EVER be concerned about is your job performance. What you do and what you say off the clock, in your own home, out with friends, whatever - if it's not during work hours, if it's not affecting the way you perform your work, if it's not doing any actual harm to the company, it's none of their concern.

That said, I want a damn invite to Google+ someone! :P

And I am now registered. Add me at will. I may soon be replacing Facebook with this, once all the people I talk to have converted. If I can get them to all convert...
