Rockstar Games has officially announced Grand Theft Auto V is in development.
The debut trailer for the game will be released on November 2.
Reports have long suggested Rockstar is hard at work on GTA V, with industry insiders and analysts pointing towards a likely 2012 release.
In June, sources allegedly close to the developer said the title is "well under way", with final touches like mini-games already being applied.
Repeated rumours have suggested the game will be set in real world Los Angeles.
The first signs of the game crept online back in February via an actor's CV, and were quickly followed by some suspicious Rockstar-registered URLs.
Last March, a casting call for an "interactive project" from Telsey & Company, a firm regularly used by Rockstar, hinted that the game is being codenamed 'Rush' and features characters including a "Welsh monk/cult leader/yoga teacher", a "weed evangelist", a "swinger" and - top of the pops - "an ugly but comfortable mellow Californian divorcee". Hmmm. 'Rush'. Which city immediately springs to mind when you hear that phrase?
San Andreas, Liberty City Stories, and IV upon release were day one acquisitions for me. I WILL, repeat, WILL get this on the first day. If the pre-order bonus is good enough, I will pre-order. And if you still doubt the game's existence, look at Wikipedia ;)
EDIT: Thread title edited, and edited again, as the trailer is now available.

I bought IV but have yet to actually sit down and play it.
I also really need to get back into San Andreas, I kept fucking up the first plot mission after you have to flee Los Santos, and never managed to get beyond that point.
Also, I picked up Chinatown Wars on the DS, and still haven't played that yet. Goddamn life eating up my game time.

I personally thought GTA: San Andreas and GTA IV were the best for me so far. I will more than likely get this Day one as well. I'm so very looking forward to this.

Totally awesome. This means that this game will likely be based in San Andreas.

The only thing that sucks is I stopped playing GTA IV when your business/first apartment burned down because of certain events. So really it's my fault though I got really pissy with the combat system. *shrugs*
San Andreas was, by far, the best GTA in the whole series. GTA III may have laid the foundation, GTA IV may have boasted a leap into HD, but San Andreas had it all. And still has it all in comparison to the other titles in the series. Can't forget the way the online community's been with the San Andreas Multiplayer mod as well. For 7 straight years, it's all come together, and hasn't died yet. How often does that happen? The Metal Gear games, Final Fantasy, and Warcraft are about the only ones that give it a run for it's money in that department, and it's nothing short of phenomenal.
Anyway, I think GTA V is going to be fucking great. I can very well see it bypassing San Andreas, or at least matching it, assuming Rockstar have been listening to their fanbase. Bring back the minigames, some of the kick ass vehicles like the BF Injection or the Vortex, enable planes again (yes, there's helicopters, but that's not enough), and just loosen it back up a little, and this can very well be "the big one" as they say it is.
EDIT: As I did with San Andreas, and as I at least think I did with IV, I am going to update this thread on a continual basis as new information surfaces. I advise anybody else who discovers new info before I do update as well instead of posting new topics on the matter.
Well, as I had suspected (and I was somehow right this time; how often does that happen?), we're back in San Andreas (and this is ALL of San Andreas, not just Los Santos as depicted here). And it looks fucking amazing. Watch the trailer:

EDIT: Bad news? It's been confirmed to ONLY be Los Santos. It's not the entirety of San Andreas, as the liars at IGN purported. Straight from R*'s mouth. Great news, however? The vastness of the game basically relays to, from the official announcement, being based on all of southern California. In short, this is going to be one massive title. I feel for the 360 owners on this one... lol

what do you mean you feel for the 360 owners? o.o
I mean, I've been reading stuff like "2.5 times bigger than Red Dead Redemption", "4 times bigger than GTA IV", et cetera. And if they're cram packing a whole bunch of stuff on there, I see potential loading issues if it's somehow able to get all on one disc. And if they do multiple discs, I have no clue in hell how that will work with GTA. For obvious reasons, the PS3 and PC are about the most well equipped to handle the game.
One potential new piece of info, BTW: Wal-Mart is listing the game as being released on June 1, 2012. Whether it's credible or not, only time will tell.

Release dates are basically subject to change all the way up until the game is actually released. Only time will tell.

Most stores throw up release date just for pre-orders. So this isn't surprising.
I'm very happy that it'll be in San Andreas, can't wait :D
I liked Vice City most, was cool with San Andreas, but never played IV. This one seems interesting enough. Might check it out.
GTA IV may take more of a serious approach than any of the other games in the series, but it's still fun. You ought to be able to pick it up now for like $10 in some places. Better yet, get the complete edition. GTA IV and the two DLC titles all on one disc.
MORE NEW INFO: There's a REALLY strong, highly credible rumor going around at the moment too: a relatively unknown named Ned Luke may be playing the protagonist. He's been on Law & Order: SVU among a few other things.

There are TONS of rumors with GTA V, it's so hard to know what's true or what's not. IMDB listed him in GTA V, playing for Albert De Silva.
Interestingly, IMDB also listed that C.J. would be showing up as well.
Then, IMDB can be edited by anyone, though. Just like Wikipedia.
Among the many so-called "leaks" from GTA V, I may have found one that could potentially, repeat, potentially be credible: http://sfw.chanarchive.org/4chan/v/26418/hey-everyone-it-s-your-favourite-neighbourhood-rockstar-leak-here-ready-and-willing-to-answer-questions. Make of it what you will, everyone.
Also, for more bonefide, actually real information: PSM Magazine. December 14th. If nobody else posts the info, I'll phish it up and post it myself. Especially since one new thing that has surfaced is that, in the trailer, there is supposed to be a "big game changing hint" that nobody's picked up on yet.
Well, Dec. 14th info was largely bullshit. However, one thing was definitely driven to the forefront: "a very big map". Let's see if the new year gives us anything else on the game...

Like... how big?
San Andreas was big. 3 Vice City-size urban centers, comprising only about 3/8 of the game map (the other 5/8 being the countryside in between). Can we expect bigger than that, or about the same size?

GTAIV was pretty big too and I think that was bigger than San Adreas.

Apparently bigger than that and GTA IV.
Consider the following:
It's being touted as the "biggest, most ambitious" R* title yet.
The map in Red Dead Redemption is 30 square miles. Twice the size of San Andreas (which is 14.9). Making it, currently, the biggest landscape in the R* existence.
City, Countryside, Deserts and Beaches - plenty of territory
My own conclusion: GTA V is gonna be at least twice the size of RDR. Four times the size of San Andreas and GTA IV (IV is, more or less, as big as San Andreas if you put two and two together). And 60 miles makes for one huge ass fucking title. The game of games. lol

That's gonna be pretty damn big!
Indeed. It'd take you months to memorize it. Hell, I'm still lost in GTA IV and RDR at times...
CONFIRMED: The composer for San Andreas and GTA IV, Michael Hunter, is back on board for GTA V.
http://www.rockstarnetwork.net/content.php/1480-Micheal-Hunter-Composer-of-GTA-V
With GTA: V on the horizon, and more information being looked for every day by the avid fans, we occasionally forget to look for some basic information that really impacts the way we listen to the games we play. While digging around the web, I found out that Micheal Hunter has been confirmed to be part of the GTA series again. Which really is not a surprise, he's an excellent composer best known for his work on the GTA titles since GTA:SA & GTA:IV.
Most of us have heard his music used for sound bytes in the game. I'm not referring to the radio stations. I'm talking about the short bits between mission completions, and loading screens. The major tune that we all know in GTA: IV is "The Soviet Connection", I love this track, and you can download it for free on Amazon. Yes for free! Click the image on the right to get your own copy!
Here is some of Michael's work that he has published on My Space: http://www.myspace.com/194017692
He's also produced an album not related to GTA titles called "State Of Flux" If you're intrested in more information about Michael's work, check out his web site here: http://www.olbapmusic.com
Gangs, or "Crews", like in Red Dead Redemption, have been confirmed for Max Payne 3 AND GTA V simultaneously. Nothing much, but still something.
