So I thought that I'd go ahead and make this thread, so it's here when I upload something artsy :D

Me too!
booooooooooooooobies!

Seriously though, I've been quite curious to see what you've been cooking up

Well, I can post up a couple of things right now that I have up on my MySpace, but so far I haven't gotten any sort of response from them. So feel free to critique away!!

Image #1: Well, here's a self portrait... done in markers. I love markers, they're so silly.
(which this should also be my avatar image on UEF for the time being)
Image #2: This is a WoW art that I did, however it's in colored pencil and for some reason for the scan to show up, I had to darken the whole image after scanning. So nevermind the darkness, otherwise you couldn't see it...

Wow you've definitely improved!

05-22-2008, 13:01
Sorry for the double post, but I figured that the actual art needs a different post from this.. but if you'd like to see what I'm up to most of the time, it's cakes. I'll stick some attachments on here for you guys of cakes that I've done.
So here's 5 of 'em. Yeah, this is what I do for a living. Eat it!!! LOL j/k
#1 Unicorn done for a little girl. This is an older one, but one of my faves.
#2 The Simpsons. Yes, I know it's copyright and all that junk, but it's all the guy liked. Sorry the image is sideways.
#3 Jose Jalapeno on a Stick. Yes, Jeff Dunham rocks. For those of you who don't know who he is, go look him up on YouTube. This is 24 cupcakes grouped together and then decorated. I think it's one of the best things I've done.
#4 A schnauzer for one of the ladies at work. It's two cupcakes covered in lots of icing.
#5 A full sheet (18"x26") marked off with "carnations". Note: I don't know what carnations actually look like, I just improvised. But dang that took a while.

05-22-2008, 13:05
Aingeleag, you just blew Crogg's MIND. Cake #4 is awesome. Way to go with that stuff, it's top notch. Crogg also enjoys the marker self portrait quite a bit.

Aingeleag

Thanks Crogg!! I'll post more as soon as I gather up another pile. :D

Ok, here's something a little bit different. It's just lineart for now, but I figured out this nifty trick for doing this to lines. Makes it look more awesome I think. I'm going to work on coloring her later on. I've been asked by one of my friends who is a now published author to illustrate several of her characters in this style. So I'll be looking for some good critique/commentary from you guys on these. Especially when I get to the men. >_< LOL

chefTENGU
05-27-2008, 19:28
Are mens too yucky to draw?

Aingeleag
05-27-2008, 23:30
LOL Oh.. no, I didn't mean it quite like that. lol It's just that for some reason, being female makes it easier for me to draw them or something. Plus occasionally I can use myself for reference. (How to draw female hands: sticks left hand up and draws with right) :P It's just I haven't really had any good references on men either.. so I'm sure that I am capable of drawing them, just not entirely sure if they'll be as nice looking of drawings as other stuff. LOL

Killer_Man_
05-27-2008, 23:35
Why not if some of us give you face pictures and you could try drawing pictures of us? Just a suggestion but I do know what you mean.

A lot of female drawers find it easier to draw women and some males the same or even visa versa. Where they can only draw the opposite better.

Aingeleag
05-27-2008, 23:42
Sure, that'd be cool :D I could practice, and with luck some of you could get portraits done lol But yeah, hoping one of these days I can sneak in some life drawing classes someplace. References are going to be a must.

I bring you the challenge of this. My fro. Two of them are old, the chef one and the t-shirt ninja one but the other one with my head tilt is a newer one. Have fun.

Heeheehee, so I'm working on the before mentioned thing for my author friend (soon as I get it moved onto my mybook from my laptop), also working on a couple other projects. But here's a slightly larger version of my avatar since it's rather hard to see.. I'm going to try coloring it pretty soon, gotta get the hang of Photoshop 7 since that's the most recent version I've found (though I swear I have CS3 on the laptop.. hmm)

Ok, so I didn't get as much done as I wanted to... between swimming a lot and the cats eating my flip flops, it's been crazy.
But here's an update.

So a friend of mine (aka Jareth) lent me a couple books on drawing. One being specifically on drawing in the comic book style. So I've been reading it and messing around. See how this catches you.
PS/ Let me know critiques, k? And yes, I hate drawing feet just like everyone else. LOL

Z
07-18-2008, 20:54
Very cool (I really like how you sign them, btw ;))

The eyebrows seem to stand out on the face, giving her a powerful yet slightly mischievous expression. :D I know you said you don't like drawing feet but you seem to do them quite well. Her whole body, in fact, is very well done. You're very good at capturing bodily curves (and I'm not just talking about the fun parts) Bravo! :D

Aingeleag
07-18-2008, 20:59
Thanks Z! Yeah, I'm slowly self-teaching myself more on anatomy and such. I think it'll help things a bit. Now I just gotta start practicing guys... O_O lol j/k. They just have a foreign figure (I use myself a lot as reference on things). And thanks for the feet comment. I usually just leave them as lumps but I tried toes this time.

And yeah, one of my ex-bf's wrote me a note one time with something close to my signature on it. So I expanded on that. I think it's not quite your normal artsy sig, but I like it.

lol yeah, the shorter hairstyles that guys usual have throw me off too. Now if you want a guy with long hair, I can do that (but it just comes out looking like some bishonen manga lol)

And thanks!! Yeah, I have a fun time doing cakes. :D I'll have to post up some more pictures of them soon, too.

I like it! I don't really have very much knowledge of any body except my own, but I think she looks good.

A couple of critiques to help you out: the line that separates her pinky toe and the one next to it is a little too long and I think her hair would look better if it draped naturally over her shoulders and boobs instead of swinging over from the side like that. Unless that's supposed to be fire or something. I have a hard time telling these things sometimes when they're in black and white.

Aingeleag
10-09-2008, 23:12
Here's a new one guys.. I got one of those non-photo blue pencils so I can sketch in pencil and then ink over it and the sketched part doesn't show up in scans. :D So I drew my new WoW character, the blood elf priest Hallelujah. So yeah.. I'm gonna make her eyes all "glowy" like so she doesn't have pupils right now. I'll repost her when I get her coloring done.

(Also.. sorry the image is a bit large.. I forgot to make a smaller sized one to post on here... also, for some reason the attachments want to keep adding the wrong file so I'll just post it directly here.)

Wow.. so I've been struggling here guys.. LOL Sorry it's been a while for an update on my drawings... but I really hadn't done any for a good while. Since a few months before the breakoff with the ex bf, I hadn't really gotten in a good artsy mood.. so I was on artists block I guess. LOL Well my new guy is a fellow artist and he's super motivating me to do more art.. and new ways of doing so. He came to visit and saw I had some watercolor paints unopened on my desk so he's been pushing me to break them out.. so hope you don't mind sloppy paint jobs too much. LOL Not nearly as pretty as usual, but here my latest two.

1) First attempt, had to drop the brightness down a bit to try to correct the colors after the scan.
2) Just finished this tonight, after messing with the scanner I think it's better now.

Holy shit, those are in watercolors? I've never managed to get watercolors to look like anything than runny pieces of shit.

Which is what I liked about acrylic paint, it stayed put! But then... I never managed to do a not-fuzzy painting. Arg. Art is hard.

That's amazingly well done! :D Your shading is awesome. I have to agree with chef and Seeg; I suck at watercolors.

Aingeleag
04-24-2009, 19:11
Wow... well thank you you guys!! LOL I didn't know what to make of how the turned out.. but I'm slowly getting the hang of the watercolors somewhat. Hopefully sometime I'll get some actual watercolor paper and see how that works. I need to go reload on some supplies.. lol Hoping to hit the lotto so I can get me a good set of Copic markers and try those babies out. LOL

Yeah, I hadn't tried using any kind of paints other than acrylics since my high school days when they made you try all kinds of stuff lol But like I said, my new guy is asking me to draw him stuff constantly so I'm keeping somewhat busy doing new things. One thing I have to say for you guys who might want to try using these watercolors sometime, I remember in school they had us use rubber cement to mask in areas we wanted to paint.. it keeps the paint inside the area you're coloring, and when it dries all off, you just rub at the rubber cement with your finger and it'll roll right off. I haven't tried it again yet, but I know that it actually worked rather well back then. ;)

I gotta ask, since you're someone who enjoys drawing the female form... do you often get requests from people asking you to draw nekkid ladies?

Of course, artists of all kinds probably get peppered with requests like that... My ex said that she got a request like that from one of her classmates when she was in 6th grade.

Aingeleag
04-28-2009, 02:19
Hmm... you know oddly enough.. I don't think I've ever had anyone ask me to draw anything nekkid. You would think so though! lol I'm kinda surprised now that I think about it!

Seegtease
04-28-2009, 02:32

I have to agree with Chef... The only masterpieces I can do is photography(And developing it the old school way. My god is it a pain in the ass.) and those black pieces of paper with the colors behind it and you 'scratch' it off to form a picture. Man I wish I could find where to buy some of that stuff. That stuff was fun.

During UEF's migration, I got a couple more things done up! :D Another digital art and then the first pencil drawing I've done in like a jillion years. Amazingly, the pencil one didn't turn out half bad (the bf tells me I'm too modest), and took like half the time as the digital one, so I might try to do some pencil work more often.

The first is just a cutesy anime version of my boyfriend.
The second is a pic of this female faun-thing I drew last night after watching Pan's Labyrinth.
The third is a pic I took with my cellphone, since I'm convinced the scanner poops things up when you scan then

chefTENGU

I keep wanting to ask if you might be interested in doing some character art for the RP I'm going to be running here before too long. I think it would be neat to be able to see if we could get images of the main characters that aren't beholden to images already present on the internet.

Of course, art isn't exactly the easiest thing to do, and I'm pretty much asking this as a favor, so if it sounds like a pain in the ass, I'll understand completely if you'd prefer not to do it.

I hope you can draw a dwarf!

chefTENGU
04-29-2009, 18:29
Awesome! I'll probably contact you about a couple of the more prominent NPCs once we get started. I can also provide you with physical details if you care about scaling everything appropriately (which would only really matter if there was a full group drawing or something).

Z
04-29-2009, 18:42
I hope you can draw a dwarf!

If she can't, you can use the one I drew. I think I got the shading right. The intricacy of the armor took some time, though, as well as the realistic sheen on the blade of the mighty axe. I also went with a viking motif to further project an image of stout savagery.

This took me like 3... possibly 3.5 hours to finish. If anyone else wants one, just let me know.

Well.. awhile back Tiger (for those who know whom I'm talking about) asked me to draw her a female dwarf, but with the whole beard and all that. It was quite a challenge drawing facial hair on a female.. but this is how that turned out..

Jasmin Jaquine
04-29-2009, 19:18
Oh that is super cool!! I know Tiger would love that! Another reason to nudge her to check the forums next time I see her online (which might be about 3 weeks I think till she's back in the capital of Niger).

Great work!!

Great art, but I think in most lore, the women don't typically sport beards (whether or not they COULD grow one, I don't know), even though it would be shameful for any male to not have one.

Seems you're very qualified to draw my male dwarf, then.

Z
04-29-2009, 19:30
I've actually heard it the opposite way, where most dwarfs sport beards no matter the gender.

Yeah, in most lore any dwarf gender wears a beard. That is why Gimmli, in LoTR, makes a wise crack to that blond human girl as they ride out to the new strong hold. He said, "It's said that Dwarf women don't exist and that we just sprout up out of the ground."

Then the girl looked to Aragorn and he gestured by stroking a fake beard.

04-29-2009, 20:38
For the record, the female Dwarves in D&D (or, rather, the campaign I'm running, which is more or less based on the default 3.5 rules, demographics, and cosmology) don't wear beards. It'd be like any woman trying to grow one.

Aingeleag
04-29-2009, 21:30
LOL Yeah, I knew that there's give and take on that whole situation... but yeah, it kinda gives me the willies in a way lol

Seegtease
04-30-2009, 00:21
There may be some that do, but all the popular ones don't. WoW, D&D, any PC RPG that lets you pick to play as a female dwarf.

In fact, I've never seen one with a beard before, and even in LotR, I think it's a joke.

Aingeleag
05-20-2009, 03:21
Just another update with the most recent... This is a pic of my man with his .500 mag Raging Bull revolver. Guns are something I'm definitely not that adept at.. it's just another pencil work with markered outlines.
Edit: second image I put on there is the actual gun.. just so you can see how sorry my drawing is.. lol And the logo is on the left side, so that's why it's not in the drawing.

Seegtease
05-20-2009, 11:48
I have a little question about his left hand: is that supposed to be in a fist? Because if so, I have a hard time imagining that stance. If not, the fingers look too short. But then again, I might not be getting it. I like the gun perspective, though.

Z
05-20-2009, 13:37
I really like the shading and the art style (and even the hint of smoke at the end of the barrel!)

I would imagine the left hand is double-gripping the handle of the gun. The bigger revolvers tend to have a bit of recoil so you have to be sure you have a good grasp.

Aingeleag
05-20-2009, 13:56
Yeah, I was trying to resemble the good grip like Z is saying.. I don't know how he holds it myself, but I fired it and for sure if you aren't holding that thing for dear life it'll recoil and knock you out.. lol I'm hoping to try to get decent reference pics sometime and try doing more gun/aiming pics to try to get better at stuff that I'm not that good at. Thanks for the critiques guys! Yeah, I'll have to work a bit more on making it better to sort out how the hands are gripped, Seeg. Thanks for pointing that out! And thanks Z, yeah, it's a little different style-wise, and I thought the smoke was kinda neat.. lol

Started something.. 'nother self portrait type deal. Thought I'd post the steps thus far for anyone who's interested.
1) Sketch
2) Rough Lines
3) Clean Lines
4) Lines Re-drawn in color
5) Coloring mostly done just by filling in with flat color and then shading in the darker color and smudging and blurring in photoshop.

deathofcheese
08-21-2009, 23:19
Neato.

I do enjoy seeing these steps sometimes, but when someone's DeviantArt is filled with sketches or unfinished pictures along with their finished art, I'm more likely to skip the artist entirely. When it's presented like this, though, it makes the finished product more appealing.

Are any of your drawings in that post based on a real character from anything, or just something you made up? (they're all very nice)

Aingeleag
09-03-2010, 01:12
The second one is a blood elf from WoW based off some WoW TCG art.. but other than that a couple of them are based roughly off of poses and things I found online.. like I had to reference the architecture in the 3rd one.. especially the archway, and I used a stock photo pose for reference on the last one. I'm kinda playing with using stock poses for stuff a little bit.. The first one there's a lady online who uses whiteout dots heavily in her work.. so I thought I'd try it. And the middle one (the super messy one wearing goggles) was just a cutesy generic scribble after i hadn't used my graphics tablet in a while. I'll have to do some more scribbles here soon since I've been doing all the Bleach arts most recently and they're all traditional pen/marker so I've been letting Photoshop sit idle a bit.
*Oh, and I wanted to mention I used PaintTool SAI for the third one.. I found it recommended on a few sites and it was a free trial download... thinking about buying it because it had lots of nice soft effects built in.. I'm not Photoshoppy enough to know how to make my own brushes to do all that.

When you get the urge to draw something, does the image pop into your head or do you just set pencil to paper and see where the spirit moves you?
