(I can't find today's update; I'll post it later.)
CENTRAL, S.C. -- Clemson football player DeAndre McDaniel was arrested over the weekend and charged with assaulting his girlfriend at his apartment in Central.
According to a Central Police Department report, McDaniel's girlfriend reported that she was at his apartment early Saturday morning when they began to argue about another woman. The girlfriend told police that the argument led to McDaniel choking and punching her and pushing her down a flight of steps.
She suffered a neck injury as well as multiple bruises, according to the police report.According to a warrant, McDaniel is charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature because of the severity of the injuries and the difference in size between McDaniel, who is 6 feet tall and 210 pounds and his girlfriend, who is 5 feet, 1 inch tall and 107 pounds.
McDaniel, 20, is a sophomore defensive back who played in all 13 of Clemson's games last season and was projected to be a starter for this year's team.
"We are aware of the situation involving DeAndre McDaniel and we are currently in the process of gathering all the facts," the Clemson athletic department said in a statement released Monday afternoon.Today's update was Tommy Bowden saying that for now, McDaniel would be allowed to play in the upcoming season. So far, a Clemson academic board has only said that the situation is under investigation.
I thought you were supposed to lose all financial aid and college attendance status with a felony charge.
Welcome to big money college football.
