Here is the thread to debate any issues brought up from my political stances thread (http://www.unitedempire.net/forums/showthread.php?t=576) or from anywhere.

Does it really need to exist? It'll just be a huge mess. Create separate threads for separate issues. That's what the entire concept of a thread is for.

QFT. Sorry, Sexhos, but it could be about as epic as "Frozen -- Great Person, or Greatest?" would be.

Well, if the discussion here seems to settle on one topic, then the mods could split that into another thread. This is just supposed to be where the runoff discussion from the political stances thread is supposed to go. If the topic is hot enough to warrant its own thread, then by all means, make it. I just threw this up so that there would be an established thread to take discussion to if it arose. If none does, then don't post here, let it get buried.

I'd much rather see threads started on a single topic instead of trying to pry out one conversation from another in a single thread.

Discussions can get intermingled with each other and trying to follow the logic/discussion may prove difficult.

I'd just like to point out that the preponderance of libertarian/apathetic/disillusioned members as featured in the other thread is really indicative of the horror of our current political climate in America.

Media leeway? Really? When CNN asks in a poll if Obama is the antichrist and screams about John Edwards' affair without mentioning that John McCain cheated on his first wife and married his second before he was legally divorced from his first, I'd hardly call that media leeway.

NBC certainly gives Obama a lot more attention. The Nightly News aired a sit-down interview with him while he was in Germany and although they did a similar interview with McCain, they didn't air it. My dad was all up in arms about that one. Naturally, though, the only news he watches is Fox News and local NBC (doesn't get into politics) news. He only watches Nightly News out of habit and because it's more of a national-oriented general news show.

On a random note... Obama is not the Antichrist because he has been suspected by many people to be the Antichrist. Funny poll though.

Media leeway? Really?
The short answer, Yes. I suppose a long answer should be given in the twin topic in Mediators Hut, though, as it will likely spawn a disputatious response.

Context: I mentioned that I felt Obama has received leeway from the Media during his campaign to which Ary replied with ...

Yes. It took until about March or April for him to get any real questions from the media who had, before then, primarily focused on snubbing Hillary.

Citing an anti-christ poll is no doubt a novelty on CNN's part. I'm not saying that the media is leaving him alone completely or not being at least a little tough on him (At times, I admit, they'll give him a decent grilling) but when you ask most Americans who they think will win, a surprisingly great amount will likely say Obama. When you ask why, they will likely say nothing because they're being presented with an image in mind and it being hammered into them without any merit (again, I'm not saying Obama shouldn't win but people shouldn't expect him to win when they don't even know what the hell he's about).

I mean seriously... and even literally...

Barrack Obama's face with the enlarged words "The Next President". This isn't even a lone incident.

Wait, what? CNN not mentioning John McCain's relationship history? I only watch TV news when I'm at my parents' house, and they watch 90% FOX and 10% MSNBC. Trust me, if I can hear about that from FOX I can hear about that from CNN.

EDIT: I moved the posts from Ary's response to Z's stance onward over to this thread.

^ The Washington Post just put out an editorial today admitting their coverage bias and pointing out everyone else's coverage bias in favor of Obama. I mean, when the media calls itself out, then there's not really much left to argue.

Obama is talked about MORE. But a lot of that coverage is in a negative light. Face it, McCain's boring. We all know that he's old, ultra-conservative, hypocritical, and nearly dead. What's there to talk about?
