Rules for Roleplaying Threads

By popular demand, I decided to create this section to get some roleplay going. We used to have quite a few going last time. A lot of you are mature, so for now I won't post any rules, but a few.

You can get a RP thread going if you want, especially if its a story line. Make an IC and OOC thread (Prefix the thread titles as "IC and OOC", ALL threads here are to be prefixed. I will turn on the function to force this later on.)

Hopefully we can have some fun and get some good story going.

For settings, Do you guys want Sci-fi fantasy, or medieval with fantasy?

No, I'm thinking more of a somewhat future earth, not too distant in the future, and almost no involvement with space.

Any time period is fine with me, so long as we have GIANT MECHS!. It all depends on the storyline involved.

I love how people think I'm talking about Sci-fi means I'm talking about space, though Granted, that's what Alpha Chronicles is about.

This isn't my original idea but I thought the setting was fun. KM and Chef should know what I'm talking about with this. Also, I'm working on a story that has a similar scope to this. This RP would help keeping my creative mind going.

Anyway the plot idea is this: the setting is futuristic earth, maybe 100 years or so. The government has been taken over by an organization called the "Veil", which has been in existence, but in strictest secrecy for probably 200 years. Ever since the founding, they have controlled various world leaders, or at least known to them. U.S. President is no exception. (yes this idea was taken from an older RP that Chef, KM and I used to do, it's been over 4 years). During the 21st Technology, the Veil began to gain even more power, as their scientists began to develop forms technology that would be highly advanced (sky's the limit here.). Then they created their guardians known as Omega Knights. These soldiers are their most elite fighters, enhanced with cybernetic technology. Now, they control most of the major countries through tyranny and dictatorship.

Giant Mechs are overrated and inefficient. :)

That story that Gio mentioned seems interesting, but if people start running around wielding swords against each other in a futuristic world that would be little ridiculous.

If we are using a sci-fi setting, can we add fantasy-esque abilities and things within the normal accepted realm for sci-fi? Like psychic stuff, or naturally excessive physical abilities.

I agree. Although, some members of the omega knights do wield Lightsaber-esque sort of weapon. No sword could eat it and come back for seconds. :D

It depends on what tack you're taking on psionics. The reason I ask is that most of the scifi characters I make have just a dash of psi to them for interest. F'rinstance, the kid who 'downloads' the memories of whoever he touches. Or the engineer who develops a connection with whatever he's working on that lets him figure out exactly what's wrong with it. Or someone who is a tad genetically modified to where his fingernails are poisonous claws (Det knows what I'm talking about here :P).

I'm not thinking telekinesis or Charles Xavier-level telepathy. I'm just trying to expand things out of the realm of steampunk gunslingers.

Meh, Senko isn't invincible. nowhere did I say she is, nor she is all-powerful. It's moot anyway, that was four years ago, and her character has changed a lot since.

Lol, it was just an annoyance that we all felt at the time. Senko could do anything and had no weaknesses. The rest of the characters were somewhat more.. human.

Anyways I look forward to the storyline and the beginning of the RP :)

Just an idea of a simple enough RP...

The Year: 20XX-21XX (we can decide later)
The Place: United States
The Premise: We're all elite assassins employed by different agencies. We all have different styles of how we get the job done (or maybe even similar styles, in some cases). One day, each of our varying agencies comes under attack by, presumably, the same mysterious organization. Before we know it, there is only a handful of people left at each agency, including our characters. Each character would undertake their own journey to find out about and deal with this mystery organization and, hopefully, our characters' paths will cross and ultimately combine in the process.

Humans, cyborgs, whatever you guys think fits could be used as a race.

The way I figure it, with the assassin story, anyway, we'll definitely have

1) A Direction. No one should be lost because we all have an idea where this story will be going and a general idea of what needs to be done to reach a conclusion.

2) The right amount of freedom. Backstories, the character development, and how your character gets to meet up with the other characters is something all on everyone's own to decide. If you like being superintricate with your plots, go ahead and do your thing for a while before you meet with everyone else and hopefully before the end of the RP, you'll have tied up all your loose ends. If you're more of a poster that feeds off other people's posts, then try and connect with another player as soon as you can and you two (or more) can help yourselves get to that RP climax together (lol, funny choice of words). Or, hell, you could be two assassins from the same agency as long as you check and make sure it's cool with the other player first.

3) Simplicity. I don't think there will be too many questions as far as what goes and what doesn't given the RP premise. It's pretty self explanatory and if there does come a time where people aren't sure what's going on, we'll have an OOC channel up to help clear up some of the more muddy info.

Of course, if it doesn't seem interesting to you guys, go ahead and say so. Like I said, it was off the top of my head and thought up in less than 5 minutes (after having played Hitman 2: Silent Assassin for two weeks, lol). My feelings won't be hurt, hehe ;)

It definitely sounds like the "Future-ish" setting has won the day but beyond that, I don't think we've heard much feedback as to what everyone actually wants to do *shrugs*. I guess we can just start posting up OOC/IC threads and hope people join in.

Like I said, it's not like you have to make a thread that will appeal to everyone, because that's just not feasible (it'd also make for a very messy thread, and I bet a lot of people would feel like their characters are being neglected).

I think some folk could do one thing while some do another. It makes the groups smaller, which makes threads easier to follow and gives everyone a chance to shine.

Plus, there's no rule that says you have to do one or the other; do both if you like them.

Let's post OOC threads and then others can chime in with contributions.

I still don't think I'll be able to join yet, because honestly, I don't think I can give it the devotion it needs... but maybe I'll join up after getting a feel for how quickly events are proceeding and how well I'll be able to keep up. If I'm gonna promise to contribute, I want to do a good job, dammit!

Ok, my views on the ideas is either medieval or modern. That is my view, no sci-fi, no bullshit. Unless it can be explain. Such as when I made a magician, that magic casting has an adverse affect such as stamina or the chance of passing out.

I agree with both of the above comments in that I believe the OOC threads are just the way to go because if we sit here and speculate all day, nothing is ever going to get done. I also agree with KM's preference for Midieval/Modern themes but for the sake of getting a game up and going, it just looks like the majority is leaning toward Futuristic/SciFi.

Give me two days (maybe more) to put something together on the assassin deal. If no one is interested, no worries. We can trash the thread but I'd definitely like to get some kind of RPG started. Having to sit here and just talk about it is like a tease, lmao :D
