LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Estelle Getty (http://movies.nytimes.com/person/26633/Estelle-Getty?inline=nyt-per), the diminutive actress who spent 40 years struggling for success before landing a role of a lifetime in 1985 as the sarcastic octogenarian Sophia on TV's ''The Golden Girls,'' has died. I know who she is, I've seen her on TV plenty of times, but I guess I've grown to expect death by now. This didn't hit me at all, really. R.I.P. none-the-less. A good actress.

I don't much care either. I haven't been affected by a TV death since DeForest Kelly.

In my case, I'd say John Ritter. But I was heavily into Three's Company around the time he died, and I always liked the Jack Tripper character he played. So when I was on GameFAQs, and I saw he died, it shook me up a little bit. And I guess there's a first for everything, so after that happened, I haven't had anywhere near a similar experience. Except maybe with Dimebag Darrel getting shot. Which shouldn't have happened. And wouldn't have if there were less fucking psychopathic cunts roaming the streets. -.-

I was bummed when I found this out today. It affects me because I always liked her as an actress, and we had the same sign (leo).
I hope she had a good peaceful death. Rest in peace, Estelle.

She seemed so old in the show. When were last episodes made, anyway?

Erm, nineties sometime. She was old-ified for the show. Bea Arthur (Blanche, the man-voiced one) was actually older than her.

Holy crap!

Yeah, I thought she was in her 70's already back in the Golden Girls era. I had no idea she was actually young-ish at the time. She was hilarious in everything she did and it sucks to know she won't be around anymore. RIP.

Ouch, that sucks.

RIP.

Bea Arthur's character was Dorothy. Blanche was Rue McClanahan.
It was a joke on the set that the daughter was older than the mother. Yeah I watched the show. Liked the show too.

Yeah, that's right. Their names always confused me. I just called Bea Arthur's character "Maude" for convenience.

Awww... I'd seen how she wasn't doing very well, and her advanced dementia left her with only a couple people she could recognize day to day. I love "Golden Girls" and she was just awesome on the show. Thanks for all the laughs, Estelle. You'll be missed.
