View Full Version : A problem with .ETD extension
So I bought these two comic issues online and bought the digital versions. I downloaded the file and it came as an .etd
The site recommended that I download Acrobat Reader to run the file so I downloaded Acrobat Reader 9 (The most recent version) and tried to load the file but it says reader doesn't recognize the extension. After doing a web search it says the .etd extension was used for Acrobat eBooks and that Reader 9 should have no problem reading them. Yet it does. Any ideas? I'm going to hit up support, too, but I don't think they will get back to me as quickly as you guys might.
I just tried Adobe Digital Editions and, unlike Reader, it actually imported the file, even identified the file, but it can't display the file correctly. All the pages are blank. :p So I'm gonna keep at it and see what I can come up with.

Never heard of ETD, you ever think to message their support?

Actually, it's an ErecTile? Dysfunction? scan layout.

Yes.
I'm gonna try and re-download it (but not re-pay it) and run it off of this mac through Reader. Hopefully it will work out better.

I'd have to take a look at it with actual ETD files myself, but the story at the link that Gio provided seems to suggest to me that it's a special transfer file type, kinda like Firefox's '.part' file extension, or WinRAR's .00, .01, .02, etc. extensions.
Support got back to me today.

Comments/Description: I ordered The Darkness issue #9 and #10 and also downloaded Adobe Reader 9 (The link that this site gave me) and Reader 9 would not recognize the .etd file extension. I then downloaded Adobe Digital Extensions and ran the files and, while it downloaded and activated them, they came with no pictures (just blank pages). I was going to try it on a different computer but now it says that I can no longer download the items I already purchased. I would ask that my downloads get reset (without charging my card again) and any help you can provide as far as getting Reader 9 to display the .etd files would be great. Thanks!
Hi Zac,
We have reactivated your guide orders, and will be happy to do so again at any time upon request. You should now be able to download your guides again.
We do sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, however only versions 6 and 7 of Adobe Reader are supported by the PDF strategy guides. Starting with version 8, and continuing with version 9, changes to the software made by Adobe have rendered the guides incompatible with later versions of their software. Adobe is aware of the compatibility problem, however we do not believe they plan to restore compatibility in later versions of their software - unfortunately there is nothing we are able to do with regards to this.
As clearly stated on the product page in red text, the guides are only supported by Adobe Acrobat Reader version 6 or 7. The product page also provides a link for downloading Adobe Acrobat 7. The only solution we can offer with regards to the no-pictures problem is to install Adobe Acrobat Version 7 in order to access your guide.
We wish we could provide you with a better resolution to this issue, however there is not much else we can do in this case. Again, we offer our sincere apologies. Please let us know if you have any questions or if there is anything further we can assist you with.

So when I get home, I guess I have to re-download the files, uninstall Reader 9 and install Reader 7 (I know I don't have to uninstall 9 but there's really no point in having both on my laptop. The comp is slow enough as it is).

That sucks. Why keep their files in a deprecated format, then?
I have no idea, lol. The site I went to is called Direct2Drive, just as a warning to anyone else.

More curiously, why would Adobe remove a functionality that was still used by some things? Was it necessary to do that?
